Senate Blocks Stopgap Bill to Prevent Shutdown This Weekend

Source: Associated Press

The Senate Tuesday stumbled over a must-do bill to prevent the government from shutting down this weekend and to fund the fight against the Zika virus. Democrats, demanding money so that Flint, Michigan can address its man-made water crisis, overwhelmingly opposed the measure, as did a host of the chamber's most conservative members.

The 45-55 vote stalls the stopgap funding bill — for now at least — and is exasperating top Republicans like Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who made several concessions to Democrats in weeks of negotiations over the measure.

The GOP defections left McConnell, R-Ky., short of a simple majority, much less the 60 votes needed to clear a filibuster hurdle.

Republican leaders are promising to address the Flint issue after the election in a separate water resources bill, but Democrats refuse to take them at their word.

A shutdown to blame on the Republicans? They really don't need that right now.

I know the spin will try to blame Democrats, but who actually THREATENS TO
and HAS shut the government down?

Mitch, is this the same OBSTRUCTIONISM as stalling Supreme Court nominee
Judge Garland?

The Republicans are doing their tired old song and dance - "If is isn't in MY backyard, we won't use federal funds." Democrats are going to force them to help Flint and do something about the toxic water that is poisoning children daily. And they are finally learning that the word of a Republican is as good as their nominee for President's.

The ReThugs in congress want to 'pay' for the Flint problem by taking money from ...gasp... Planned Parenthood and other women's health services. So no contraception for the women of Flint, so more women can get pregnant, can't get pre- and post- natal care, and can have even more children to poison.

Republicans are simply evil. Not hypocrites, not marching to a different drummer, not misguided, not even corrupt. Just evil.
