A majority of likely voters (52 percent) who either watched the debate or said they followed debate coverage in the news said Hillary Clinton won the first presidential debate on Monday night, according to the NBC News|SurveyMonkey Debate Reaction Poll.
Just 21 percent of likely voters thought Donald Trump won the debate, and 26 percent said neither candidate won the debate.
The poll was conducted online from September 26 immediately following the debate through September 27, 2016.

It isn't exactly like Eisenhower and Adlai Stevenson where their differences were fairly nuanced. Someone who thinks one or the other of these characters is nothing less than the antichrist isn't going to do a 180 because of debate quips.

(51,697 posts)Trump did neither. That is what it means to lose a presidential debate.

(51,697 posts)As the article at the link notes, that same poll showed that 22% of independents had a worse opinion of Trump after the debate, as opposed to only 9% who had a better opinion of Trump. That is more than a 2 to 1 margin. Not good.

(15,552 posts)Those are just people who wanted Trump to come close to "winning" the debate, but are all sour grapes about the fact that he was abysmal, so when asked said, "Neither one." They are the same ones who know Hillary is 1,000 times better but refuse to vote for her. I heard one guy, who was introduced as a Republican strategist on NPR tonight say that he disliked Trump but just wouldn't vote rather than vote for a Democrat. Those people are just plain sore losers and don't really care about this country at all.
