Ivana Trump says she raised Donald Jr, Ivanka and Eric without any help from Donald

Source: International Business Times

07 OCT 2016 AT 11:38 ET

Donald Trump's first wife Ivana Trump said she raised her kids without any help from The Donald, according to the New York Daily News. "I brought the children up singlehandedly," Trump told guests Wednesday at the Lifeline Benefit at Le Cirque in New York City Wednesday, an event to benefit pediatric cancer in Serbia.

Ivana is the first of Donald's three wives and the mother of Ivanka, Eric, and Donald Jr. The two were married from 1997 to 1991, when they split over Donald's infidelity with Marla Maples, who later became his second wife.

At the time the couple divorced, their children were 12, eight, and six. Ivana received custody of all three kids.

It's not the first time Ivana has commented on raising the kids alone. "Once the children were the age of 21 and out of the university, I said, 'Donald, this is the final product, now you deal with it,'" she told the New York Post in an April interview.

It should be 1977 to 1991. They got the article from International Business Times which has it as 1977 to 1991.

If she truly raised them without any input from Trump, they sure all turned out just like him. Lying, entitled, rich kids.

Maybe he wasn't living with her and the kids in their home but his influence is what stuck, apparently.

...is going to have as much if not more influence. I've no doubt Ivana did her best (whatever that was), but if she raised the kids as millionaire children who had nannies and maids and cooks, who lived in outrageous luxury, spoilt beyond belief, and never having to really pay for any wrongs they did, never having to sacrifice anything...it's rare that such kids turn out well. And I'm sure that for all she raised them single-handed, they wanted daddy's attention and approval. The children of famous fathers, with dad's last name, are viewed by others as "this famous man's son/daughter," and often view themselves that way, too. They have trouble with autonomy. They can sometimes worship such fathers too much, and worry too much about a father's (their name's) legacy.

Also, the parent who isn't there, especially if famous, often has more power, more allure than the parent who is seen every day. The every-day parent is merely human. The distant parent can be "mythic." So, I'm not surprised if these kids are lock-step with Dad now, never mind who raised them. Especiallly if dad (however crookedly) provides for that lifestyle they've lived and don't want to give up.

Did anyone read the interview linked to in the article?

“I have nothing against Mexicans, but if they [come] here — like this 19-year-old, she’s pregnant, she crossed over a wall that’s this high” — Ivana lowers her hand to 4 inches above her wall-to-wall carpeting. “She gives the birth in American hospital, which is for free. The child becomes American automatically. She brings the whole family, she doesn’t pay the taxes, she doesn’t have a job, she gets the housing, she gets the food stamps. Who’s paying? You and me.

“As long as you come here legally and get a proper job . . . we need immigrants. Who’s going to vacuum our living rooms and clean up after us? Americans don’t like to do that."

For all others, who like me have kids who graduated college, would you ever say something like this?:

It's not the first time Ivana has commented on raising the kids alone. "Once the children were the age of 21 and out of the university, I said, 'Donald, this is the final product, now you deal with it,'" she told the New York Post in an April interview.

It sounds like she has little use or love for her children and acts as though raising them was a burden - in spite of having likely had sufficient money to have lots of paid help. You wonder what was so great in her life that she wanted to do rather than deal with her kids.

I've never heard any of the three children even mention their mother or any contribution she may have made to their lives. Can anyone disagree? Perhaps I've missed something, but I seriously have never seen them make any reference to Ivana.

It's always "my dad" did (fill in the blank).

When Donald left Ivana to join Marla, Donald Jr. is supposed to have accused him of loving nobody/nothing but his money.
“How can you say you love us? You don’t love us! You don’t even love yourself. You just love your money,” twelve-year-old Donald junior told his father, according to friends of Ivana’s.

And Jr.'s crossed over to the Dark Side since he left Ivana's nest.

... Oh wait, that was Mr. Mitnik, that's right.

But who figured out how to HIRE Mr. Mitnik?

Oh wait, that was poppa Friedrich, that's right.

Hey, at least he told little 4 year old donnie Jr not to run with the "bad crowd" (that bad crowd always exists in groups of pre-k 4 year olds, of course), and he told 4 year old junior not to smoke drink or do drugs, when sending him off to school. Plus, he gave his kid that great advice "don't trust your father, loser."

You can't buy that kind of parenting, for any amount of money, no matter how rich you are.

So there.

I think that she was divorced by 1991. She had a cameo in the movie The First Wives Club and famously said: "don't get mad; get even!"
