After video, Huntsman says it is time for Trump to drop out

Source: Salt Lake Tribune

One week after explaining why he planned to vote for Donald Trump, former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman said it is time for the Republican nominee to drop out of the race and allow vice presidential nominee Mike Pence to represent the party.

His reversal came in reaction to an explosive video that emerged Friday showing Trump bragging about groping and kissing women.

"In a campaign cycle that has been nothing but a race to the bottom — at such a critical moment for our nation — and with so many who have tried to be respectful of a record primary vote, the time has come for Governor Pence to lead the ticket," Huntsman told The Salt Lake Tribune.

Huntsman previously said that while he had "fundamental philosophical differences on a range of issues" with Trump, he saw the billionaire celebrity as the best chance to update the tax code and reform the campaign-finance system.

Sorry, Jon.
You knew what you were buying when you endorsed this racist, misogynist monster.
You don't get to play moderate now.
You own this. Pence owns this. The Republican Party owns this.
And it will hang around your necks as an albatross for the rest of your political careers.

It's not as if he genuinely cares that Trump is abhorrent, he is just starting to hear the giant sucking sound of all the downballot candidates swirling the drain with Trump.

good point rumdude,

i was convinced around 2012 this guy would be the next rethug nominee - not insane, non-tea moderate, media savvy kids ... but he had sense enough to read the public angst and not stand with the 17-or-so other losers ... but being a party-loyalist (royalist) and backing drumpf, while diminishing him in my view, may boost his chances to repair and even lead the party that has said "no" to the electorate for both of obama's terms back from the ashes.

but i could be wrong ... again!

Who gave Huntsman the right to choose Pence? The reason the repugs are so divided is because their electorate couldn't decide on a leader. Who believes Pence would have been chosen? Just because he speaks in a quiet voice doesn't mean he is sane. Look at his record.

If Donald J tRump quits, and enough votes are recorded in the right places for the "Republican", then the electoral College voters can vote Pence in.

I'm sure there are all kinds of factors and contingencies that would tie the country up into knots and would lead to elimination of the Electoral College, if it came to that. It can make interesting reading sometimes when there is informed speculation about these factors.

But we don't need Pence and we don't need the Republicans.

They grew the deplorables who bought tRump hook line and sinker. The Republican Party owns him.

And all his batshit crazy delegates would have to change their votes. They can not be removed

And Trump cannot be fired. He would have to agree to it and they publically encourage the voters to vote for the alternate under his name.

The republican base would explode. And even better, transfer all their hatred onto the republican party rather the Democratic Party.

It would be like if 40% of the Democrats had joined and supported the Jack Pine Asshole group.

There is no good ending for the republicans in this election.

In the highly unlikely event that Trump quit campaigning, the GOP could ask people to vote his name anyway, and then choose electors who would vote for Pence.

Wouldn't be successful, though.

Only Cruz and Kasich held back

You can't pull a nominee 32 days before the election

You could announce it, but ballots are fixed in most if not all states

Kasich, yes. Kasich has maintained the status of sane human being.

Yes, ballots are fixed in most states. But how many and which ones? Could a write-in push for Palin, ahem - excuse me, Pence be in play?

Silent Acquiescence. Love it. Forgot about those weasels perched on the fence.

It's camp!!

Cheers.
