Top Evangelicals Stand By Trump Despite His Vulgar Comments About Sleeping With Married Woman
Source: Huffington Post
Some of the countrys most prominent religious conservatives are still supporting Donald Trump even after 2005 audio published by The Washington Post and NBC News revealed him making vulgar comments about women and extramarital sex.
The explicit tape, recorded during a conversation with then-Access Hollywood host Billy Bush, caught Trump making several misogynistic remarks, including a claim that he tried to have sex with a married woman. (Trump had married his third wife, Melania, just months before.) He also boasted he could grab any woman by the pussy due to his fame.

Ive listened to the tape, my view is that people of faith are voting on issues like who will protect unborn life, defend religious freedom, create jobs, and oppose the Iran nuclear deal, Ralph Reed, the chairman of the Faith and Freedom Coalition and a member of Trumps religious advisory board, said in a statement. I think a 10-year-old tape of a private conversation with a TV talk show host ranks pretty low on their hierarchy of concerns.
Family Research Council president Tony Perkins, another Trump supporter, told BuzzFeed he isnt concerned with sharing values with the GOP nominee.

(7,217 posts)No more, I guess. Evangelicals back Trump even though he lusted after his own daughter? Go figure.
A quote I found:
Evangelicalism in contemporary America has always, and only, been a political movement; identity politics that ties together Jesus, America - and whiteness, and maybe not in that order. Theologically it is vacuous. They created the "anti-Christ" lie in an attempt to develop an American theology that turns white America into the "chosen" nation. Theres nothing inconsistent about evangelicals buying into Trump, because evangelicalism is nothing but posturing and nihilism.

(17,863 posts)Trump admits that he engages in sexual battery as a method of "seduction". That is a crime that many women have accused him of. Now they have demonstrated proof that he has an attitude that such behavior is acceptable, and a confession that he has conducted that behavior himself.

(49,002 posts)The video seems to have been shot around Sept. 16, 2005.
Barron was born March 20, 2006.
It is 185 days from the start date to the end date, or 6 months, 4 days excluding the end date.
Donald J tRump talked like that while he knew his wife was three months pregnant.

(15,035 posts)given the long and sordid history these "religious leaders" have exhibited as a group over the last several hundred years. Jim Bakker raped one of his associates; Jimmy Swaggart carried on lengthy affairs with hookers using church money; Ted Haggard did the same with male prostitutes; Earl Paulk took advantage of numerous females in his congregation, stood accused of child molestation, and had a child with his sister-in-law;Tony Alamo is in prison for raping minor girls and for violations of the Mann Act; Joe Barron tried to rape a 13 year-old girl -- and those are just in the last couple decades.
Treat these people with the contempt they so justly deserve. Force them to PROVE they deserve any respect or consideration. But by no means be surprised because they line up behind a sleaze bag who admits to forcing himself on multiple women, especially one who acted this way based on his assessment of his own personal position.

(90,708 posts)...and gods know what else, and she still held out on him. Who could imagine that? The very idea that any woman, even a married one, would be able to resist his advances is just inconceivable to Trump.
I can just imagine the boorish "courtship", something along the lines of, "Hey, ya gotta nice rack, wanna screw?"
Uck.

(4,542 posts)They are evangelicals precisely because they want to make their own rules. Not my rules, not your rules, not the Popes rules. Hell they are reluctant to even say that the Pope is a Christian, or that President Obama is. Do not look for them to abandon the biggest rule bender nutbag trump. We just need to keep taking off slices. I still believe there are more sane voters than not.

"Not every one who says to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name? And then will I declare to them, I never knew you; depart from me, you evildoers." (Matt 7:15-23)

(11,566 posts)The evangelicals' continued support of Trump only underscores their deep and wide misogyny. They would support a sexual predator for president over a highly qualified woman. This, in and of itself, speaks volumes as to their true morals.

(14,174 posts)to start to question their religion. As I did many years ago.
That's a silver lining maybe. How religion, any religion, can twist, omit, add, any interpretation of their holy book they want to until they are convinced that the opposite of what was written is the true meaning. example: Thou shalt not kill...does not mean convicts, only unborn fetuses.
The older more ensconced into the 'faith' one is the more stubborn one is to admit that you've been wasting so many years of your life, but young people can see through it and jump ship much more naturally.
