Sen. Deb Fischer calls for Trump to step aside, give Pence nomination
Source: Omaha World-Herald
In a stunning move, Nebraska U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer called for Donald Trump to step aside today and give running mate Mike Pence the nomination.
Fischer's decision to abandon Trump is surprising in the sense that she has long been one of the Republican presidential nominee's most ardent supporters, backing him at both the Republican National Convention and in Nebraska.
However, Fischer made it clear today that she now found Trump's candidacy "unacceptable" after the recent release of an audio tape in which Trump degrades women.
Fischer is now at the same place as Nebraska U.S. Sen. Ben Sasse, who has long been an opponent of Trump's. Sasse also called this morning for Trump to stand aside in favor of Pence, the Republican vice presidential nominee.

platform but what gets people all hyped up is a sex scandal

It is literally impossible now. He has no legal way to get on the ballot in many states (including the key swing states of Ohio and Florida) and no state has a provision for a "a vote for trump is a vote for Pence". Even a massive write-in campaign would not work as some states don't allow write-ins.
In short, at this point in the election, there is no path forward in which an alternative republican candidate could muster 270 EV. None.

(11,519 posts)I'm not a Constitutional Scholar so I have no clue if it's correct, but someone was on TV claiming to know how this works and claimed that if tRump withdrew that the election could most definitely go forward because we're really voting for the Electoral College in each state. The other thing though, is that repub party rules seem to prohibit tRump from being forced out.

(8,699 posts)Alll 50 states have laws that hold their respective electors to vote the will of their voters, meaning votes for tRump have to be for tRump, as he is on the ballot, not Pence or whoever. Even if he dropped out.

Maybe if Trump just assaulted and fat shamed women discreetly, it wouldn't be degrading.

(17,387 posts)...with some sort of backroom deal that throws the GOP Base under the bus for what Trump has called "political correctness." After the GOP has been pushing conspiracies about stealing elections, it is the GOP that is calling for a backroom political deal to handpick the President.
