Anti-Semitic Posts, Many From Trump Supporters, Surge on Twitter

She had seen her face superimposed on the body of a concentration camp inmate. She had been called a slimy Jewess. She had been told she deserved the oven. One anonymous individual had electronically harassed her for 19 hours straight.
Things got so bad that Bethany Mandel, a 30-year-old freelance writer in Highland Park, N.J., decided one afternoon last spring to drive to a nearby gun shop. A mother of two small children, she now keeps a .22 in her home.
What had she done to provoke so much vitriol? She posted some messages on Twitter drawing attention to the fact that Donald J. Trump seemed to have a lot of anti-Semitic supporters.
In some respects, Mrs. Mandels story has become a familiar one. She is among hundreds of Jewish journalists who have been the target of anti-Semitic attacks on Twitter during the 2016 presidential campaign, according to a new report by the Anti-Defamation League.

(53,959 posts)Of course, the irony with some is palpable.
It is as it has always been, Jews, the go to scapegoat. They know they can threaten our lives, but until a big event, size is debatable, happens, most just shrug it off with a breathy, "meh".

(14,591 posts)During the speech at a rally in West Palm Beach, FL, Trump claimed that there was a global power structure that is responsible for the economic decisions that have robbed our working class, stripped our country of its wealth and put that money into the pockets of a handful of large corporations and political entities. He also claimed that Clinton meets in secret with international banks to plot the destruction of U.S. sovereignty in order to enrich these global financial powers and that the election may be in fact controlled by a small handful of global special interests rigging the system.
Multiple journalists noted that the speech played on old anti-Semitic tropes. As Politicos Eli Stokols explained, The hints of anti-Semitism were strong. Jonathan Greenblatt, the president of the Anti-Defamation League, tweeted, .@TeamTrump should avoid rhetoric&tropes that historically have been used [against] Jews & still spur #antisemitism. Lets keep hate out of [campaign].
The speech was reportedly co-written by Stephen Bannon, the chairman of Breitbart News who took a leave of absence to work as Trumps campaign CEO. Bannon has bragged that Breitbart News is the platform for the alt-right -- a rebranded white nationalist movement that is opposed to immigration and embraces racism, sexism, anti-Muslim bigotry, and anti-Semitism.

(14,591 posts)They allowed for comments on their live feed until Trump supporters started making anti-semitic posts. The comments on the live feed lasted all of a couple of hours before they shut it down.
It started when a Jewish Republican woman was interviewed at the convention. Then the comments turned ugly and vile against her and the RNC shut down the comments section.
