Judge weighs extending Georgia voter registration a 2nd time

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) A federal judge who ordered the voter registration deadline extended in one Georgia county that evacuated for Hurricane Matthew is now weighing a second request to grant more time for people in a wider area.
U.S. District Court Judge William T. Moore Jr. said Wednesday he would rule within hours on the American Civil Liberties Union's motion to give new voters six more days to join the rolls in six coastal Georgia counties that Gov. Nathan Deal ordered to evacuate in ahead of the storm.
Last Friday, Moore agreed to extend registration in Chatham County, which includes Savannah. That extension lapsed Tuesday.
Cristina Correia, an assistant Georgia attorney general, argued extending registration past the original Oct. 11 deadline risked injecting "human error" into the voter rolls.
