Amid 'rigged' election charges, Russia wants to monitor U.S. vote

Source: USA Today

In an apparent move to embarrass the United States over Donald Trump's claims of a "rigged" presidential election, Russia sought to send monitors to U.S. polling stations for the Nov. 8 vote, Russian media revealed Thursday.

The bid was sharply rebuffed by the State Department, and one state election official threatened criminal action if Russian monitors showed up, according to state-controlled Izvestia daily and broadcaster RT.

State Department deputy spokesman Mark Toner called the Russian effort a "PR stunt" and denied that the United States blocked Russian diplomats from observing the election.

A spokeswoman for Louisiana Secretary of State Tom Schedler, who received a request to allow Russian monitors, called it a "propaganda ploy."

Candidate. KGB Candidate is good because it's kind of in-your-face reality. But really, the term I want to use the most is the candidate who lost on November 8th, 2016!!!

Hope all is well in the islands.

...and it won't play well in other countries either, if they're trying to embarrass America. It just makes other countries think of Russian's trying to interfere with their voting, or, worse, intimidate them.

Russia has made a bad play here if they think it will embarass the U.S. Internationally or domestically. I don't think even die-hard-Hillary haters or Trump lovers or even the right-wing media is going to say "Gosh, why not?" Rather than "HELL NO!"

Russia might have just united voters by giving us a common enemy, and united other countries worried at how Russia IS influencing the elections in other countries.

1) You are a registered voter in the state where you wish to work as a monitor

b) A person running for office in "your state" signs the needed paperwork asking you to be an election monitor

iii) You do not disrupt the voting process or bother anybody as they are about to vote

4) You have the needed credentials and are sworn in by the precicnt judge

32. Russia Today - "United States bars Russian monitors from presidential polls – elections commission"
Fri Oct 21, 2016, 01:05 AM
Oct 2016

Here is the original story from Russian propaganda outlet RT:

https://www.rt.com/politics/363478-united-states-bars-russian-monitors/

The US has rejected a Russian proposal to send diplomats to monitor the upcoming presidential elections and some states have even threatened to bring criminal charges against any that appear at ballot stations, Russian election officials report.

Sources in the Central Elections Commission have told Izvestia daily that its representatives held a series of talks with the US State Department to discuss sending a delegation of monitors to US polling stations on November 8. US officials categorically rejected even the possibility of such a mission, however, instead recommending that Russia join the international mission of the OSCE’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR).

The request was also rejected on a state level, and in three states – Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Texas – officials used “very harsh formulas” to do so, the sources said. “In violation of all principles of democracy and international monitoring, in Texas they even threatened to hold monitors who appear at ballot stations criminally responsible,” they added.

The head of the Central Election Commission’s department for international relations, Vasily Likhachev, said that the US response reminded him of the Cold War, and that it was fully in line with the “Russophobic trends” currently promoted by the US State Department. “Americans obstruct Russia’s attempts to monitor their elections because they see them as a threat. The refusal to allow Russian diplomats to perform their direct duties is a demonstrative violation of the 1961 Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations,” he said.
