Michael Steele, former Republican National Committee chair and lieutenant governor of Maryland, told Buzzfeed News on Friday morning that he will not vote for Donald Trump, citing the Republican nominee's appeal to racists.
At a dinner for the magazine Mother Jones, Steele told Buzzfeed News that Trump has "captured that racist underbelly, that frustration, that angry underbelly of American life and gave voice to that."
I will not be voting for Clinton, he said. I will not be voting for Trump either.
Steele said that Trump does not represent the whole Republican party and that he was "damn near puking during the debates."

(13,466 posts)And how long has the Republican Party lived off this underbelly now? How many times have hate radio hosts said the same things Trump repeats with Republicans remaining silent? They created this mess, Trump just rode the wave of what the GOP has nurtured for a very long time. But these "good" Republicans are so "shocked". I guess this fakery is the only act they can come up with to try to make the party's shit smell dissipate. But Trump wasn't the first turd in their house.

(11,519 posts)He coyly chose to give his 'State's Rights' speech at Philadelphia, MS where Civil Rights workers (who were there to register voters) were murdered in 1964. That racist bastard knew what he was doing, playing to the racist underbelly of America.

(409 posts)The Philadelphia speech was textbook Southern Strategy! Makes my blood boil to think that helped Reagan win the 1980 election.
1980 was the only election in which my dad didn't vote for the Democrat. Voted John Anderson instead. Says he regrets it now!

(8,964 posts)For months his mantra has been "Trump needs to so this, Trump needs to do that..." while being oblivious to the hateful and divisive rhetoric from his party's candidate. Steele is now demonstrating that he has a very keen sense of the obvious.
