Major websites briefly down in possible attack

Spotify, Twitter, The New York Times and other major websites suffered brief outages Friday morning in what appeared to be a broad denial-of-service attack targeting major domain-name servers.
The incident reportedly affected internet users along the East Coast, and caused hundreds of sites to be inaccessible.
Shortly after 7 a.m. EST, Dyn Managed DNS said on its website that it began "monitoring and mitigating" an attack on its systems. Scott Hilton, the company's executive vice president for products, told POLITICO that web users are still "experiencing a service degradation or intermittent interruption during this time."
Amazon Web Services, another major host, also said this morning it was investigating a disruption.
