Bridgegate: Kelly says she told Christie of plot the day before she sent 'traffic problems' email
Source: Bergen Record
Taking the witness stand in her own defense Friday, Kelly explained that Christie really didn't react when she told him of the upcoming study, but said OK and asked her when it would be scheduled.
Christie told her to make sure you run it by O'Dowd, she said, referring to Christie's chief of staff at the time, Kevin O'Dowd.
He wanted to know what our relationship was and how are things with Mayor Sokolich, Kelly said.
Kelly is accused of working with Bill Baroni and David Wildstein, two former executives at the Port Authority, to reduce access lanes to the bridge in Fort Lee to punish Democratic mayor Mark Sokolich for not endorsing Christie for re-election.
Kelly testified Friday after Mike DuHaime, a friend of hers and one of Christies closest political advisers.

Kaboom! Well there you have it! I'll have more on this later. I have to actually work sometimes. I'll fill in details in the Christie Crime Digest later. Read this article. It includes this tidbit:
Q. You're afraid of the governor?
A. Yes, yes.

(2,419 posts)and it worked. I know a lot of eastern newspapers have been having trouble today because of a denial of service cyber attack. NJ.Com is down right now. But the Bergen Record is working. Try this (its the same link but maybe it will work here): http://www.northjersey.com/news/bridgegate-kelly-says-she-told-christie-of-plot-the-day-before-she-sent-traffic-problems-email-1.1681115

Well guess what, just think of a baseball game and this one is at the states taxpayers expense, you have now gotten two strikes against you, and your being called to the plate to explain yourself, I have feeling that you are going to perjure yourself
I have a pretty funny feeling, that it going to be a slider being delivered to you, when your looking for a curve ball, and your going to swing and miss.
Have you looked at new uniforms lately XXXL and when your called out, you will have to "shut up and sit down" in jail
You from all appearances you didn't even think of your family, when you did, this, or your citizens of the state, your power was more important, than principles

Kelly said she told Christie of Wildstein's plan.
The governor said that's typical Wildstein, Kelly said.
Christie then told Kelly that the two should get together for lunch the next day if her schedule was free, she testified.
The next day, Aug. 13, Kelly and Christie met for lunch, along with his then-deputy chief for policy, Deborah Gramiccioni, at a cafe in Morrisville, Pa.
That same day, Kelly sent Wildstein the time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee email.
But Kelly said it was absolutely not an order to block access to the bridge. The message was sent in a very quick manner using words that Wildstein had often used to describe the anticipated effect of the study and other Port Authority matters.
Traffic problems were just two words that went together when you talked to David about the Port Authority, Kelly said. Addressing the jury later, she said, If I said time for a traffic study in Fort Lee, we wouldn't all know each other.

The article says that Christie called it "typical Wildstein". Then, they had lunch the next day.
Did she testify about what went on during that lunch?
And what does that last sentence mean? They all knew each other, no matter what she wrote. Is that a typo?

She was addressing the jury. That is, if she had worded her email differently, she wouldn't be there, and she and the jury would never have met each other.

Christie told of NJ 'Bridgegate' closures month before: defendant
By Joseph Ax | NEWARK, N.J.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was told about the lane closures that led to the "Bridgegate" scandal a month before they occurred, a former aide testified on Friday, contradicting Christie's statements that he only learned about them afterward.
Bridget Kelly, the governors former deputy chief of staff, told jurors in federal court in Newark that she discussed the plan to shut down access lanes at the George Washington Bridge with Christie in August 2013, and again in September as it was ongoing.
Kelly, who is on trial for her alleged role in the plot, said she believed at the time that the closures were a legitimate traffic study, not a politically motivated scheme, and described it as such to Christie.
Prosecutors have charged Kelly and former Port Authority of New York and New Jersey executive Bill Baroni, Christie's highest-ranking political appointee at the transportation agency, with creating massive traffic gridlock in Fort Lee, New Jersey, as payback after the town's Democratic mayor, Mark Sokolich, refused to back Christie's 2013 re-election campaign.

(5,902 posts)Anything less than a full admission that this - and so much else, such as holding Sandy funds hostage from defiant mayors - was on the direct orders of Crisco himself is almost certainly a whitewash.

(8,854 posts)That's my takeaway from this. They're still trying to frame it as a "traffic study" that Christie ok'd, with him supposedly not being aware of what was really going on.

(5,902 posts)Partial admissions and limited hangout have, for decades, been the go-to tactics for scoundrels whenever they've painted themselves into a corner.
Once wrongdoing becomes universally understood, admit it - just not the full scope of it (which usually amounts to treason).

(8,854 posts)...I've always thought of those movies where some guy agrees to take the fall and do jail time as long as there's a certain amount of money that he's guaranteed to get for each year he spends in prison. I'm almost convinced that something along those lines is going on here.
