Half of Republicans would reject election result if Clinton wins: Reuters/Ipsos
Source: Reuters
Donald Trump has repeatedly called this year's presidential election rigged and has coyly said "I will keep you in suspense on whether he would accept a Hillary Clinton victory, but many Republicans are less circumspect, according to a new poll.
Only half of Republicans would accept Clinton, the Democratic nominee, as their president. And if she wins, nearly 70 percent said it would be because of illegal voting or vote rigging, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Friday.
Conversely, seven out of 10 Democrats said they would accept a Trump victory and less than 50 percent would attribute it to illegal voting or vote rigging, the poll showed.
The findings come after repeated statements by Trump that the media and the political establishment have rigged the election against him. He also has made a number of statements encouraging his supporters to fan out on Election Day to stop illegible voters from casting ballots.

The Republican obstructionism followed by Trump has bred this divisiveness. No one could heal this hate the the right has created, it is time for the Republican party and Teabaggers to go the way of the wigs and torries.

(13,599 posts)The GOP "base" is really nothing more than a rump party anymore with Trump getting the votes of only a plurality of that. The only reason it seems like more is because of the intense coverage and free advertising given to them by our ratings/advertising-obsessed corporate media.

(10,749 posts)It'll give them a sense of how democracts when bush was appointed president.
Who the fuck cares whether they "accept" the results or not.
That said, if dems don't have the majority in congress then we'll continue to have gridlock. At some point I think the republicans would have to cave. And if dems have the majority, again, who cares?
The more important issue, I think, is what trump says or does if he loses. I don't rule out violence at his implicit or explicit urging. And then it's a whole different ballgame.

But, it is going to be like it has been under BHO, only worse, possibly MUCH worse, from their part.
Starting with the SC - if BHO pulls Garland, they can't whip together a vote in a month to get him in, or he "dies on the vine" and Clinton picks a nominee ... Its going to get REALLY ugly, REALLY quick.
