Justice officials warned FBI that Comeys decision to update Congress was not consistent with department policy
By Sari Horwitz October 29 at 12:05 PM
Senior Justice Department officials warned the FBI that Director James B. Comeys decision to notify Congress about renewing the investigation into Hillary Clintons private email server was not consistent with long-standing practices of the department, according to officials familiar with the discussions.
Comey told Justice Department officials that he intended to inform lawmakers of newly discovered emails. These officials told him the departments position that we dont comment on an ongoing investigation. And we dont take steps that will be viewed as influencing an election, said one Justice Department official who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the high-level conversations.
Director Comey understood our position. He heard it from Justice leadership, the official said. It was conveyed to the FBI, and Comey made an independent decision to alert the Hill. He is operating independently of the Justice Department. And he knows it.
Comey decided to inform Congress that he would look again into Hillary Clintons handling of emails during her time as secretary of state for two main reasons: a sense of obligation to lawmakers and a concern that word of the new email discovery would leak to the media and raise questions of a coverup.

On the "lighter" side, my friend worked in facilities for the insane for about 20 yrs. (before they were closed and now these people are sent to jail). Friend says you learn the behaviors of the mentally deranged and Trump has them ALL, from his voice inflections to the way he uses his hands when he talks. Not to mention what comes out of his mouth.

(21,056 posts)and yes, I realize not everyone can see what some who are able to read behaviors very well, can see - and that is that DonDon is weird, messed up, crazy, whatever ya wanna call it! His odd daily behavior is concerning. That 2011 Australian video that just came out showing him belittling a former Miss Universe from Australia, all because she didn't show up to kiss his ass the previous day is really sick! He implies he screwed her "she came, she came, she came" - mind you, this was in front of hundreds of people and he was talking about Miss Universe - how disgusting!

(13,606 posts)It is within the President's power to fire Comey if Congress won't impeach him and he won't obey a request to voluntarily resign. Bill Clinton fired Sessions.

(10,479 posts)influence some voters. It would fit right in with this entire run for the future. This proves, in my estimation, that this year and the years ahead will no longer be a good future for ourselves and our young people. It is sickening to think about it.

(523 posts)Maybe Comey's message was contrary to the policies enunciated by the Dept of Justice, headed by the Attorney-General, a Presidential appointee. If such a hot potato discovery had been kept under wraps for two weeks, until after the Election, the Republicans would have thrown such a coast-to-coast tantrum that you'd have tanks in the streets. At least releasing word on this discovery ASAP was one way of trying to defuse it or at least depressurize it. Perhaps by Election Day we will find out it's one big nothing.
Imagine if the shoe were on the other foot, and the FBI were sitting on a some last minute discovery about Trump and kept mum about it.
