Poll: Comey’s bombshell changes few votes

Source: Politico

The race for the White House is tight, but it has not been radically changed by the FBI director's bombshell announcement last week.

Hillary Clinton has a slim three-point lead over Donald Trump one week before Election Day, according to a new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll conducted entirely after FBI Director James Comey announced the discovery of new emails that might pertain to the former secretary of state's private server.

Clinton leads Trump 46 percent to 43 percent in a two-way race, and 42 percent to 39 percent in a four-way race, with Libertarian nominee Gary Johnson at 7 percent and the Green Party’s Jill Stein at 5 percent.

The poll was conducted using an online panel of 1,772 likely voters on Saturday and Sunday, beginning one day after Comey's announcement. The poll carries a margin or error of 2 percentage points.

They could be apathetic, and not bother; or they could let their asshole flag fly free, and vote for Trump. The worry is that a few days of hype over this could persuade them. Or persuade a few others who would have voted for Hillary to stay away because "both of them are flawed".

Jill Stein won't get more than 0.35% of the vote nationally.

Any poll that has her at 5% is completely non-predictive of election results.

If she gets 1% nationally I'll eat my hat.

Nobody feels like they're in a safe state this year.

0.35%, with 0.50% being her absolute ceiling.

Weird way to twist the clear meaning of what I said.

But people don't feel like they're in a safe state. People aren't walking around in California saying, "Oh, CA is a safe state! I'll vote for Jill Stein." It's simply not happening.

Like I said, 1% I'll eat my hat. Or, we can make a friendly wager? Donation to DU?

No way in hell she gets 5%. I'd be surprised if she gets 0.5%.

She's at least ten points ahead, but vote rigging
and suppression on the part of red states IS
a problem.

It's been ugly in Texas already, with people and
poll workers breaking the law regarding voter ID
and intimidating minorities.

ballot. We need to give President Hillary Clinton a Congress she can work with; weaken the stranglehold Republicans have in the House, and take back the Senate. Thirsty-Rubio needs to GO. We need Patrick Murphy to be our next Senator from Florida. Same goes for Ayotte. Governor Hassan would be FAR BETTER than Stepford-Ayotte.

I'm afraid that voters will vote for Hillary simply because the Tangerine-Orangutan is abysmal n ALL ways, but they might vote for a Republican over a Democrat down-ballot because of Comey's idiotic move, believing in the crap that it's good to have a 'divided government' - which, as the Republicans have shown us in the past six years, the biggest lie perpetrated on the American people.

I am cautiously optimistic about Hillary's chances. But this is a down ticket trick. This "scandal" wasn't perpetrated by the Trump campaign, it was done by House and Senate Republicans in a desperate attempt to secure their seats.

It might just turn some on the fence back to their local Republican rep. Just enough, together with their gerrymandered tactics, to tilt them back into the red.

I'm very optimistic about Hillary's election as our #45, but I'm a bit worried about down-ballot. And you're exactly right: the letter 'leaked' by Ratface Chaffetz (supported by ALL congressional Republicans) clearly isn't geared toward winning the White House. They already know they've lost it.

This, I believe, coordinated dirty-move by Director Comey and power-hungry, do-nothing Republicans in the House tells us that keeping control of Congress is their NUMBER ONE goal now. They want to continue to obstruct a Democratic president, stop her from appointing judges and justices, and attack, attack, attack for another eight years (I have no doubt she'll win re-election).

As I tell my voting group: Democrats campaign on policy because they're good at it. Republicans campaign on racism and character assassination because it's all they have.
