FBI speeds up its investigation into possible Clinton-related emails after criticism
Source: LA Times
The FBI accelerated its timeline for reviewing emails potentially linked to Hillary Clinton on Monday amid growing public pressure over the agencys surprise announcement that it had found them in an unrelated case.
Investigators had planned to conduct the review over several weeks but, after a torrent of criticism over the weekend, began scrambling to examine the trove of emails, according to law enforcement officials. The FBI hoped to complete a preliminary assessment in the coming days, but agency officials have not decided how, or whether, they will disclose the results of it publicly, and officials also could not say whether the entire review would be completed by election day.
The uncertainty did not stop Donald Trump from charging into the vacuum with ominous speculation that a Clinton victory would spark national upheaval. Clinton repeated that she was confident the FBI had no case against her and that voters had already made up their mind on her use of a private server while she was secretary of State.
Hundreds of thousands of emails were discovered in an unrelated investigation into whether former U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner, the estranged husband of top Clinton aide Huma Abedin, violated federal laws while exchanging sexually explicit texts with a 15-year-old. Most of the emails were Weiner's, investigators say. Hundreds, perhaps thousands, belonged to Abedin, one official said.

(5,271 posts)Although these are all probably duplicates of the emails they already reviewed that Huma had received and sent that were not classified at the time, some of Huma's were considered "retroactively" classified. So if they match up the same ones, they will be able to say they were determined to have been classified, though not at the time. Media will run with "classified" headline if this happens.
If this scenario happens, gives more fodder to Trump and Repubs and justification for Comey stepping in although it amounts to nothing of any significance whatsoever, except partisan politics injected into campaign by FBI.

(43,313 posts)They can't undo what has already been done, and they can't compound it so near
an election anyway
and a job worth doing is a job worth doing well. They can't speed this up and do a
credible job with overtime, extaneous personnel, pressure for speed.
They should simply strongly disavow what Comey said the other day and clear up
that record, and put Jason Chaffetz in his place with his attempt to augment what
was said with what he implied.
And let Democrats get on with denouncing Trump.

President Obama should grant a pardon to Hillary and Huma. It would stop this nonsense right in its tracks and give the voters confidence that Hillary will not be hounded by the FBI and the goopers as President.
