interisting how some stories dont get any comments ,where some get lots . i feel that this is important.

As I understand it, Mexico has one of the worst oligarchies in the world (although the US must certainly be trying to catch-up).

This would appear to be the second time the Mexican 1% have pulled-out all the stops to deny Andrés Obrador the presidency.

And, I certainly suspect that the corporate and governmental 'powers that be' in the US have done all they could to insure that the elite retain power in Mexico -- indeed, Pres. Obama called Nieto to congratulate him on his 'victory' before the recount was even started, yet alone completed.

Mexico could be a very prosperous nation if 'the people' were allowed to have power and create rules that made sure that wealth was not concentrated into the hands of the already rich and powerful. A truly leftist, progressive and pro-Mexican national government is exactly what Mexico needs ... but as we even see in the United States, that is just not going to happen because of the economic power of the elites.

Mexico fought a revolution aimed at sweeping change, and yet not much has changed.
It is indeed a sad state of affairs.

The highly monopolised Mexican media played an important role in defining this election. Political commentator Denisse Dresser highlighted the role of the two major TV outlets in “creating” Pena Nieto as a candidate by granting him a pervasive presence in the news and presenting him more as a character from a soap opera than a politician.

The media highlighted Pena Nieto's marriage to a Mexican TV actress, his youthful looks and called him “the Latin American response to David Beckham”. An analysis of how Pena Nieto governed the state of Mexico was ignored.

The Miguel Agustin Pro Juárez Human Rights Centre has reported how Pena Nieto, as State of Mexico governor, was responsible for violent repression in San Salvador Atenco in 2006. In this infamous incident, more than 2000 armed members of the state security forces atttacked the unarmed civil population, resulting in 47 women being brutally tortured, many of who were sexually abused, and a young boy was killed.

Oaxaca swings heavily towards AMLO (Lopez Obrador), and on election day here in Oaxaca City, there was a big uproar because there weren't enough ballots for people voting from outside of their districts (a lot of students, for example).

But aside from all of that, there are widespread accounts of fraud, whether it be in the pre-marked ballot form, or the gift cards for voters (which required, in many cases, a copy of a voter id card to be handed over to the PRI).
