Trump Reponds to Comey’s New Letter: ‘You Can’t Review 650,000 New Emails in Eight Days’

Donald Trump has responded to James Comeys announcement today that his new probe into Hillary Clinton hasnt changed his conclusion regarding her email situation.
As he spoke to a crowd in Michigan on Sunday, Trump ranted again about how Clinton is being shielded by the totally rigged system.
-snip-
Trump went on to say that while Comeys decision has been made, the investigation into Clinton will continue because the rank and file special agents wont let her get away with her terrible crimes.
Reports indicate that after the FBI gave the new emails their full attention in the last few days, and they found that nearly all of them were duplicates of previously reviewed messages, while the ones that were not, didnt pertain to government businesses.

I can understand his confusion - he must still be shaken up by that "assassination attempt" by sign last night! Still suffering the effects of the paper cut.

(51,084 posts)For those wondering how the FBI was able to determine whether the emails involved were new they likely used a software program. Each email has a message id that is specific to the email based on where it was sent from. Outlook has a tool for that purpose. Gmail does it automatically. Mozilla Thunderbird has an option to config for dupes.
They likely could had accomplish the dupe delete process in less time then it took for them.

"a basic algorithm for division"
A skilled coder can write an entirely original algorithm to search for keywords in a couple of hours or less. Chances are, though, that the FBI aleady has algorithms ready to go at a moment's notice. In fact, it probably took J. edgar Comey longer to compose his "Nevermind" letter than it did to search the emails.

(10,303 posts)... they'd be done in 5 minutes. Or less. 35,000 approx FBI... 650,000 emails. 20 emails or less each agent. Good percentage is spam, lots more totally irrelevant.
Seriously Donald. Want to pre-empt Tuesday night when we can say legitimately "You're Fired".

I don't suppose Trump knows about filter progs, either, that would automatically pick up on emails to, from or about Hillary Clinton.

(10,130 posts)that the FBI had a program for determining duplicates.
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/hillary-clinton-emails-investigation-fbi-director-james-comey-anthony-weiner/
Inside the labs of the FBIs elite Operational Technology Division in Quantico, Virginia, agents are using a sophisticated software program to scan and sort through several hundred thousand emails on Anthony Wieners laptop.
The software is searching for emails belonging to Huma Abedin, which are expected to number in the thousands. Theyre trying to figure out if any are relevant to the investigation into Hillary Clintons private email server.
The program the FBI is using is likely similar to one built by San Francisco-based company, Logikcull.
It tells you whats inside that data. In 650,000 emails, how many attachments are there? How many documents are images that dont have any searchable content at all? How many duplicates are there? said Andy Wilson, the companys CEO.
Wilson said the process can be completed in days, not weeks.
If they do it in a more modern way, it could be done literally in a couple of hours or a day or two, Wilson said.
Given they'd been searching a variety of servers and locations for the deleted emails, it justified developing it.
The thing is, it is a pretty easy program to write and process to execute. So even if they didn't already have one, they could have hauled in a clever high school kid to whip one up for them - it's that simple. I know as I've done something like them for generating data from emails into databases.
Trump's comments expose how ignorant he is and how ignorant those of his supporters who buy it are.
They said that they did not find many that were not duplicates so it would not take long to check security issues on the few new ones they found.
Poor Kellyanne will have to find something else to lie about.

(2 posts)Why is the media talking about Hillary's emails and not Trump's close ties to underage sex traffickers? John Casablancas, Jeffrey Epstein, Jean-Luc Brunel, Tevfik Arif, Roy Cohn??? All of these are tied to trump in various ways. All of them are involved with underage sex trafficking. (Roy Cohn's case is rumor though). Why are we talking about these fucking emails and not this??? This should have sunk Trump's campaign yet no one mentions it.

(10,156 posts)once you delete the emails from on-line businesses wanting you to spend more money with them - and those are the ones the spam filter lets through - messages from Alan Grayson (does anyone know how to stop these?), and pleas for money there isn't that much left.
A good filter can sort through thousands of emails in less time than it took to type this sentence.

(1,528 posts)No definite FBI source I could find, but these were part of the automatic backups that were done every time she plugged her smart-phone int the computer to charge.
This explains why she would not know they were there, and the "650 thousand" number may have just been multiple copies of the backup over time.
As many people have stated there are many programs that can do a compare and search for duplicates that once setup would take only seconds to run. Beside the many off the shelf programs to do this any data base programmer could do this in their sleep.
Sorry no definite link on this yet.

(50 posts)The last time I checked, the Trump-loving FBI had scrutinized HRC's emails for MONTHS now. Yet despite their futile attempts to derail Hillary's campaign, they could NOT prove any wrongdoing on her part.
By the way, Don, where are your tax returns? I thought you made a promise to release them?
