MEXICO CITY (Reuters) - The Mexican government on Sunday condemned the fatal shooting of a Mexican citizen over the U.S. border by a U.S. agent.

The victim was hit by a single bullet on Saturday, close to the Tomates-Veterans border crossing in Matamoros, over the river from Brownsville, Texas, Mexico's Foreign Relations Ministry said in a news release.

The shot was fired by a U.S. Border Patrol agent, the ministry said in the release.

"The Mexican government has reiterated that the disproportionate use of lethal force in immigration control is unacceptable under any circumstances," it said.

From the Reuters article you provided:

(Reuters) - Texas unveiled the second of six new 'interceptor' gunboats on Thursday, similar to Navy swift boats that plied the rivers of Vietnam during the Vietnam War, to patrol the waterways of the Mexico border.

The Texas Department of Public Safety, which oversees the Texas Highway Patrol and the Texas Rangers, said the 34-foot shallow water crafts would be deployed on the Rio Grande and the Intercoastal Waterway, which separates the Texas mainland from Padre Island.

"They have night vision capabilities, they have ballistic shielding, and the first couple of boats have fully automatic machine guns," department spokesman Tom Vinger told Reuters.

~snip~

Vinger said the boats would mainly patrol the Rio Grande, and would be geared toward stopping smugglers of drugs, weapons and illegal immigrants.

Thank you, tawadi. You have certainly expanded our grasp of this new situation.

about a federal agent.

The federal government has much bigger and badder boats. And of course they take orders from the President, not the Governor.

...and I'm just waiting for the future stories explaining how we murdered a few harmless illegal immigrants trying to get into our country to better their lives. Just astounding. Leave it to Texas..probably the dumbest state in the West. Certainly a Confederate mentality of shoot first, ask questions later.

How insanely ignorant. I'm sure the NRA members are all pounding their chests with glee.

And those boats- and the implication of the militarization- will only heighten tensions. Mexico does not suffer foreign (military) intervention lightly.
