Mainers heading to polls in massive numbers – ‘more than I’ve ever seen’
Source: Portland Press Herald
FALMOUTH A line of residents estimated at more than 300 snaked through the hallway of Falmouth High School at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, as Town Clerk Ellen Planer opened the doors to the gym and announced that the polls were open.
This is more than Ive ever seen, said Planer, as the crowd surged toward the voting booths.
Similar scenes were happening across Maine, as residents awoke to clear skies and below-freezing temperatures to kick off an Election Day that marked the end of a campaign season that has been among the most divisive in American politics. Some said they were just glad it was over.
Im pretty excited for it to be done, said Alex Denniston. It has been an exhausting process, to be sure.
