1. Carson has said that he's not qualified to serve on Trump's cabinet.

That lack of qualifications didn't stop him from running for President, however.

HUD is a "yuge" opportunity for graft and corruption. It makes sense to put an incompetent in charge of it. The crooks can run loose with the money and he'll never know.

In the past Republican admins, HUD has been used to finance some interesting things, such as a retirement community for upper middle class retirees.

3. What exactly is Carson's qualification?

Some previous secretaries of HUD:
Julian Castro - Mayor and involved in law
Shaun Donovan - Architect and involved in the FHA
Steve Preston - According to Bush he was savvy with finance that could help with mortgage payments (May not be right, but at least it's something)
Alphonso Jackson - Dallas Housing Authority
Andrew Cuomo - Chairman of the New York City Homeless Commission

As a retired neurosurgeon, what does he know about the HUD Department's mission to "increase homeownership, support community development and increase access to affordable housing free from discrimination"?

Trump has not offered Carson U.S. housing post: spokesman

President-elect Donald Trump has not extended an offer to retired neurosurgeon and former presidential rival Ben Carson to head the Department of Housing and Urban Development, a Carson spokesman said on Wednesday, disputing a report by the Wall Street Journal.

"Trump did not make an offer," Carson spokesman Armstrong Williams told Reuters. "He asked him to consider HUD. Nothing has been offered and no decision has been made."

The Wall Street Journal earlier had cited Williams as saying Carson had been offered the post and had accepted. The Journal later corrected its story to say Carson was being considered for the HUD job.

"@realDonaldTrump is considering @RealBenCarson for a cabinet post. Dr. Carson is prayerfully & seriously considering," Armstrong said on Twitter. On Tuesday, Armstrong had told Reuters that Trump had asked Carson to consider taking the post and that Carson was considering it.
