Jill Stein raises over 4m to request US election recounts in battleground states
Source: Guardian
The campaign had reached 4m by just before 4pm EST.
Stein said she was acting due to compelling evidence of voting anomalies and that data analysis had indicated significant discrepancies in vote totals that were released by state authorities.
These concerns need to be investigated before the 2016 presidential election is certified, she said in a statement. We deserve elections we can trust.
The fundraising page said it expected to need around 6m-7m to challenge the results in all three states.

This is good news, the money has doubled in a short period of time. This is looking promising that Jill will file for a recount. Thanks Jill!!!

Wisconsin: $1.1 million by Nov 25
Pennsylvania: $0.5 million by Nov 28
Michigan: $0.6 million by Nov 30
Those are filing fees alone. The costs associated with recounts are a function of state law. Attorney's fees are likely to be another $2-3 million, then there are the costs of the statewide recount observers in all three states. The total cost is likely to be $6-7 million.

(108,978 posts)they indicated that ALL of that sum was going to pay for fully funding the 1st state -- not for the filing fees for all three states.
It seemed like classic bait and switch to me.
And then they reached 4.5 and now they say they have enough for 2 states -- and need another 2.5

I'm trying so hard not to get my hopes up too far, but if Stein can pull this off she will get nothing but thanks from me. The fact that so much money has flowed in so fast tells me a LOT of Americans are extremely upset by the results of this rigged election. I'm just praying that Stein plays it straight with us.

I don't like her politics but I do like that she is doing this & if it wins her some votes next time the numbers will be so small as to not matter.
If this election has not proved that our electoral process is screwed up I don't know what will.

(244 posts)...well, technically, they are more honestly Left than ours since they aren't paid to lose on congressional legislature to republicans (Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders and a handful of other real progressives excluded of course). So it just makes total sense why we are comfortable donating to them. There is a trust.
And that being said i just donated another $100.
You're welcome

(1,803 posts)The Green Party is one of the factors that contributed to a Trump victory, and I cannot feel sympathy for Stein now that she has buyer's remorse after helping to get Trump elected.
If Hillary asks for a recount, that's one thing, and it likely will prove futile. But Stein shouldn't even have standing (from a non-legal perspective) to challenge the results because she lost by any measure and no recount will change that.
She should go away.

(22,651 posts)I think the shady stuff was top flight malware on a couple of machines, especially floridas machines AND mail-in vote system was gamed somehow in many smallish chunks across Americas thousands of counties.

(94,572 posts)There'll be a recent. The same machines will be tallied. Broadly speaking the same numbers will be found. This will NOT involve an inquiry into the coding of the machines, nor will any statistical anomalies in results be grounds for a further investigation. All this does is reinforce the fact that Trump won.

(4,490 posts)If by some miracle it gets the results overturned, great. The problem is that the ways in which we know the GOP stole the election (voter suppression) and the actions some suspect handed Trump the election (Russian hackers) won't be detected by a recount. I'm just saying don't get too excited over this. I know people are desperate, but y'all are just setting yourselves up for some big disappointment.
