Governor orders immediate evacuation of Dakota Access protest camp

BISMARCK - Gov. Jack Dalrymple has ordered an emergency evacuation of the Dakota Access Pipeline protest camps on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers land, citing safety concerns due to harsh winter weather.
Dalrymples order signed Monday, Nov. 28, states that people camping in the area near the Cannonball River are ordered to leave immediately and take all their possessions with them.
The order comes three days after the Corps told the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe it would be closing the Corps-managed land north of the Cannonball River on Dec. 5.
The governors order, which takes effect immediately, applies to Corps lands where the agency has not permitted camping, said governor spokesman Jeff Zent.

(53,339 posts)The general public is hereby notified that emergency services probably will not be available under current winter conditions, he wrote.
Michael Knudsen, logistics coordinator for the Standing Rock Medic & Healer Council, which has provided care and services at the camps, said the announcement showed that the governor has absolutely no empathy or care for the lives of the campers.
This is completely morally reprehensible, he said, adding that the council and Standing Rock emergency medical services were prepared to continue addressing medical needs at the camps without the help of the North Dakota government.
We have never counted on the states help, because we know that ultimately the state health department is controlled by the power of the governor who has proven time and time again he does not want this encampment and therefore does not care about the wellbeing of the people.

She also scoffed at claims that the government was prioritizing public safety and the health of people camped at Standing Rock.
Winter is a normal thing for us. The people are prepared and ready, she said, noting that police recently deployed water cannons against nonviolent demonstrators. They poured water over people when it was freezing.
Allard said the announcement was an obvious ploy to help support the pipeline corporation, which has said that delays in construction have cost hundreds of millions of dollars.
They are running out of time.

(11,096 posts)Since he's so concerned about "safety concerns due to harsh winter weather", will Gov. Dairymple also help out the homeless in his state?
I'm standing with the Standing Rock Sioux. May they find the strength to see this through.
