200,000 Indonesian Muslims Demand Christian Governor Be Jailed
Source: cbnnews/world
Hundreds of thousands of angry Muslims protested in Jakarta, Indonesia Friday, demanding their Christian governor be arrested for alleged blasphemy against Islam.
The protestors were calling to jail Gov. Basuki "Ahok" Purnama over comments he made about the Koran during his campaign.
Ahok is the first ethnic Chinese to be Jakarta governor and the first Christian to do so in half a century.
The blasphemy controversy erupted in September when an Internet video showed Ahok criticizing detractors who argued the Koran prohibits Muslims from having a non-Muslim leader. As a result, Ahok will be facing trial for those blasphemy charges.

Of course, Christians have a long, long history of such. Long before the crusades. Hypatia comes to mind. Many others. And that whole witch burning bit.

The question I struggle with: Is religion just a useful excuse or cover for human violence, or is religion the actual cause? The Quakers make me lean towards the former, but maybe it's the latter.

(53,061 posts)they are a "nonintegrating" sect that was forced out of Muslim Bangladesh and the Burmese and now the Thai are expected to incorporate them. The Buddhists in Myanmar coexist with 60 different ethnic groups with no problems. Having said that there is no question that some uneducated monks gave violated their precepts as monks and acted out of a typical anger.
I can tell you what the national security advisers of Myanmar and Thailand would say; We are happy to provide safe access for the Royhingya from Bangladesh to be resettled in the US.

(51,797 posts)Indeed, according to them, all Muslims not living under a Muslim ruler are violating the Koran. Seems to me it is the protesters who are blaspheming. Religious zealots are invariably hypocrites.

(14,179 posts)Where religions are all the same harmless beliefs. That it is actually a good thing to have a "faith". Where they are no more dangerous than those believing in flying saucers. Where we must stop west-splaining to them about improvements on their culture.
Sorry, but the Islamic leadership has taken this religion to the evils at the same level as the Inquisition, sometimes even beyond that. And what is worse is that millions, like in that picture, support this brainwashed cultish belief system. Where over 60% in moderate muslim countries belief that death is a just punishment for non-Muslims. This is a massive giant world wide dangerous cult.
Not that I think militarism will solve it in the end. It must ultimately be solved by insisting on freedom of speech and thought in these Muslim countries as stipulations for trade etc. Many multifaceted ways to pressure and educate. But military strikes may be necessary as well. But either way, its time to stop this coddling of a psychopathic led insanely violent misogynistic cult be neutered and that it be brought to its knees.
