Flynn's son spreads conspiracy theory about DC pizza shop
By Rebecca Savransky - 12/05/16 07:41 AM EST
The son of retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn, President-elect Donald Trump's pick for national security adviser, on Sunday appeared to spread a conspiracy theory that Hillary Clinton and her campaign chief ran a child-sex ring in a back room of a D.C. pizza shop.
Michael Flynn Jr. on Sunday tweeted about the false story after an armed man entered Comet Ping Pong in Northwest D.C. and claimed to be investigating the story.
Until #Pizzagate proven to be false, it'll remain a story," Flynn Jr. tweeted on Sunday.
"The left seems to forget #PodestaEmails and the many coincidences tied to it, he added.

Yeah, I know: in other late breaking news, scientists have determined that water is wet. What's new about this story is the article in The Hill this morning.

Support fake story about political opponent. Someone tries to shoot up a place based on the fake story. Say fake story is still real, despite knowing the consequences of his actions.

(963 posts)as I was driving last week. I couldn't believe my ears and was completely angered when she wasn't shut down and shamed on the spot. The other guest did go after her on it but the host, don't think it was Diane, didn't push back hard enough and allowed her to talk her way through it.

(57,704 posts)this fact by itself would be enough to cause the elder Flynn to withdraw.
We are not living in that time. Instead, what happens is that the reporters covering the story receive threatening emails and have to disable the comments to their articles.

(2,972 posts)We should all be afraid that right wing fuck-nuts who are either running our country, or are very close to those who are running our country, are mentally disturbed enough to believe these crazy lies - and to spread them and act on them.
We must be sure this stays on the front burner for as long as possible to expose Trump's appointees as mentally and behaviorally unfit to be in any position of leadership or power.
It's getting worse every day. And the mainstream media is worse now at keeping check on power than they were during the campaign. I guess they don't want to be shut out, so they're soft shoeing on Trump's transition. Even MSNBC's daytime coverage seems to almost cheerlead some of what's going on in Trump's world.
Here are some details on the guy who went in to the pizza place with a gun:

I've eaten at this place before. It was featured on an episode of Diners Drive-ins and Dives. It's one of the best pizza's I've ever eaten.

(2,272 posts)I mean just how far "out there" in your hatred/paranoia do you have to be to actually believe something as patently crazy as this? I also agree with you about the media. There comes a point when you MUST acknowledge the sheer lunacy of what's happening to our country. I think there's a credible charge of sedition to be made against the likes of Breitbart AND Fox.

(CNN)The son of incoming national security adviser Michael Flynn, who Sunday night peddled a false conspiracy theory about a DC pizzeria, has an official government transition email address.
Michael G. Flynn, the son of retired Lt. Gen. Michael T. Flynn, has served as his father's top aide and chief of staff. CNN's KFile previously reported that he pushed extreme conspiracies theories on Twitter and Facebook.

SALISBURY, N.C. (AP) Before he was charged with firing an assault rifle inside a Washington restaurant, where he had been drawn by a fake news story, Edgar Maddison Welch was known as a well-meaning father of two girls who unnerved some with his religious fervor and sometimes had trouble detaching himself from the internet.
Police say he came to the Comet Ping Pong pizza restaurant Sunday on a self-imposed mission to investigate a false account of a child sex ring that had spread through fake internet news stories.
For years, he had appeared to lead an aimless life of things left unfinished: jobs, college and even marriage. Along the way, he was convicted of drunken driving and minor drug charges.
. . .
In late October, the 28-year-old struck a teenage pedestrian with his car in his hometown of Salisbury, requiring the boy to be airlifted to a hospital, according to a police report that said he wasn't immediately charged. More recently, days before he drove to Washington, he was dropped from the rolls of a volunteer fire department.
