Hillary and Bill Clinton are expected to attend President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration on Jan. 20, according to a pair of reports out Tuesday.
Both Clintons plan to attend Trump's inauguration as 45th President of the United States, aides to both Clintons said, as cited in a CNN [link:http://www.cnn.com/2017/01/03/politics/george-w-bush-laura-bush-to-attend-trump-inauguration/report].
Hillary Clinton discussed whether or not she should attend with advisors and friends over the last few weeks, according to anonymous sources cited in a New York Magazine report. She and her husband ultimately decided to attend "out of a sense of duty and respect for the American democratic process," according to the report.

UPDATE:
Bush, Clinton to Attend Trump Inauguration
Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton both plan to attend the 58th Presidential Inauguration Ceremony, despite earlier reports that both families might not be attending. Until Tuesday, Jimmy Carter was the only former president to RSVP to President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration. According to a statement released by Bush, he and former First Lady Laura Bush "are pleased to be able to witness the peaceful transfer of powera hallmark of American democracyand swearing-in of President Trump and Vice President Pence." Clinton and former Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton will also reportedly attend. George W.H. Bush, who is now 92 years old, has said he will not be attending, citing his age.

(24,122 posts)I just don't like the optics, but, then she had every right to participate, obviously.
I do hope, though, that Hillary gives interviews, and makes statements to the press, that she intends to oppose that Nazi racist pig every step of the way in attempting to implement his fascist agenda, as Bernie and Schumer have done.
LisaM
(27,813 posts)She got more votes than Bernie in the primary, more votes than Trump in the GE, and yet their names are plastered all over everything at the moment and anytime she shows her head, criticism rains down on her. Don't hide at home! Don't go to the inauguration! Fight! Don't fight!
It's ridiculous and I'm glad she's going because I don't want her to fade away.

(41,832 posts)secondly, I'm sure that it hurts really bad for her to go and see that jerk sworn in. It takes a lot of backbone to stand up to that.
It's not a pro-Trump move. It has nothing to do with him.
It has everything to do with Hillary's class and dignity.
It's not like Bill could have attended alone without causing an insane amount of crazy speculation and when you're 1 of a very small half handful of people (Living Presidents) you're expected to show up no matter what.

A tough, tough moment for both the Obamas and Clintons. Like I said, I could not do it. No way, no how. (that's why I'm just a keyboard warrior, and they are in the spotlight, LOL)

(429 posts)It is s total disrespect to those that were purged from voter rolls, whose provisional ballots were never counted, and polling places were moved. This was all to keep democratic voters, specifically those of color, from voting. Appearing at Trump's Inaugural is an insult to those who tried to vote for Clinton. What this move by the Clinton's reveals is the Democratic Party, as they have since 2000, are continuing to look the other way, while criminal operatives of the Republican Party steal elections. If we are waiting for the Democratic Party to protect voting rights, we are truly deluded. It is up to us.

What you list influenced the outcome, but that is not the same as an election being stolen.
Voters legitimated Trump, and that includes anyone who did not vote for Clinton.

But, I don't think it matters in the long run anyway. I do not believe I'll ever see another legitimate election in my lifetime. They control it all, they count the votes, they make the rules.

(9,865 posts)A little hard for the Democrats to keep pressing the Trump-Russia-election interference which is treasonwhen the person who was the target of that possible interference attends the ball and appears, for media purposes to be normalizing this situation, as if it is indeed now gonna be business as usual.
I do wish Democrats weren't so afraid of FOX attacks and looked more fearless in the face of RW backlash. We need to defend SS, Medicare, Obamacare and there's something about this that makes it all looklike the codes of normality are more important than the dangers we in fact face.
Didn't he just send out a New Year's tweet that called the majority of Americans and HRC "his enemies" who "lost"? And we have to be polite about this situation?
