CNN reporter: Top Trump aide threatened to throw me out

Source: The Hill

A CNN reporter who was denied a chance to ask a question at President-elect Donald Trump’s press conference said that Trump’s incoming White House press secretary threatened to throw him out if he pressed for another question.

Jim Acosta attempted to ask Trump a question at his first press conference since he was elected president, but the president-elect refused and called the network “fake news.”

“At one point during this news conference, in the interest of full disclosure...after I asked and I guess demanded that we had a question, Sean Spicer, the incoming press secretary did say to me if I were to do that again, I was going to be thrown out of this press conference,” Acosta said during a live broadcast following the press conference.

...

"Don't be rude. No, I'm not going to give you a question. You are fake news," Trump responded, before calling on another reporter from Trump-friendly outlet Breitbart.

Now, I'm not a huge CNN fan, but to say they are fake news and not take questions, but then answer anything Breitbart, aka Nazi Central, asks is truly scary. Just like he'd rather tell us what RT said than anything said by American media. He's the one that's promoting lies and disinformation and is a true criminal. Probably the first true criminal that's even won the office?

She called me yesterday almost in tears because she feels EVERYBODY is letting tRump get away with EVERYTHING. I told her to just hold on. Someone as mean, foul, godless, cruel, unhinged, sorry, ignorant, boorish, stupid (which can't be fixed btw), who has lived 70 years has to have bodies buried somewhere and skeletons in the closet. I told my friend that this man will crash and burn, maybe not tomorrow, maybe not even next month, but I assured her that within six months he will have crashed and burned.

He's got too much baggage and junk not to. Someone, somewhere has the gasoline can. This person is going to get so sick and tired of his BS and finally light the match that will bring this sorry-ass man down!

And my fellow democrats, this is what it's going to take - a FIRESTORM, not the little campfires tRump and his ilk are good at putting out, but a real FIRESTORM that nothing can control except rain in the form of impeachment or resignation. Write it down, because it's gonna happen.

AND making it clear through word and deed that any coverage of bodies returning from the Iraq War was verboten. Totally taboo. NOT permitted. No coverage of the flag-draped coffins returning to Dover AFB. That was one of the first official things the then-new President Obama did: invite the press to honor and welcome home those coffins of the American troop casualties, and attending that moment himself. During bush/cheney, if you so much as published a photo of it, or anything else like it - funerals, families in mourning, coverage or discussion of, or Heaven forbid SHOWING the TRUE cost of war, you could be fired.

They did not want the American people to see, hear, or be reminded of the true cost of war. That might turn them against it. Gotta say something for these people. They're NOT naive, they DON'T forget, and they LEARN from experience. You better believe they remember how, once Walter Cronkite had seen enough of the Vietnam War coverage to turn against it, the American people turned against it, too. I believe the quote from within the White House at the time was "if we've lost Cronkite..."

But then again, back during that time, we had a network anchorman who was known and even nicknamed "the most trusted man in America." We had Cronkite. On CBS - once widely known and even nicknamed "the Tiffany network" because it was considered so honorable and high-class - even the programming side (where they had sterling properties ranging from "I Love Lucy" and "The Ed Sullivan Show" to "60 Minutes" and "Mary Tyler Moore&quot . And others of his ilk, like NBC's Huntley & Brinkley and Frank Reynolds and others on ABC.

Who would you consider an heir to the mantle of "the most trusted man (or woman) in America" nowadays? The closest I think we get, anymore, is/was Jon Stewart. And he was on Comedy Central, not one of the major establishment networks.

Scary times.

Good reminder about the coffins from the Iraq War and the difference in Bush and Obama. I remember when the Seattle Times published the photo of the coffins in a plane and the uproar about that.

You are correct about the calculation involved in these decisions. There is a danger in underestimating their plans because of the absurd idiocy of the figureheads they've chosen to install to achieve them. Another aspect of that was their decision not to reintroduce the draft and instead to use stoppage to keep troop numbers. They knew that the draft would turn much of the rural vote they counted on against them.

They do fear news people who are regarded as principled. It's no coincidence that they engineered the takedown of Rather. His was a respected voice they silenced from having a nightly presence.

I consider Christiane Amanpour to be well regarded. And Richard Engel gave the most astute comments on the night if the election of any of the coverage. That both are foreign correspondents is not surprising.

Agree about Stewart.

I look at the makeover by Comcast of NBC/MSNBC to Fox reporter dominated news and shudder.

Thank you again for your thoughtful reply, Calimary.
