Democratic Rep.: Having Our Sessions Testimony at End of Hearing Equivalent to Sitting at Back of Bus

by Josh Feldman | 2:06 pm, January 11th, 2017

Congressman Cedric Richmond, the current head of the Congressional Black Caucus, had some pretty strong words in response to the placement of his testimony and others during a Cabinet nomination hearing today.

The confirmation hearings for Senator Jeff Sessions, Donald Trump pick for Attorney General, continued, featuring testimony from Richmond, congressman and civil rights icon John Lewis, and Senator Cory Booker (it was of particular note that Booker decided to testify against his own Senate colleague).

But Richmond made the following argument about their testimonies being placed at the tail end of the confirmation process:

“I want to express my concerns about being made to testify at the very end of the witness panels. To have a senator, a House member, and a living civil rights legend testify at the end of all of this is the equivalent of being made to go to the back of the bus.”

You need to get your fucking asses in the seats at the front. Do what you have to do. Apparently, the rules of decorum no longer apply.

these hearings are just lip service...sessions, tillerson etc etc etc - lying is their MO...the Republicans have been building this Trojan horse for years...once it got to the gate - they just opened it..they don't care - and anyone who voted for this I consider unAmerican.. from Trump - the Trojan horse - to all the foot soldiers now before us...

Barbarians, grifters, and swindlers sure know how to sling the shit....

Senator Patrick Leahy, the longest serving Senator currently serving, confirmed on MSNBC this morning that there has never been another instance where ANY serving member of the Congress was relegated to 'the back of the bus'. That in all prior instances serving members of Congress were always given the privilege of testifying first.

Just another example of the new Republican rules, like it or not.
