Trump Already Distancing Himself from Press Secretary
Source: Political Wire
January 22, 2017 By Taegan Goddard
The New York Times reports that White House press secretary Sean Spicers first appearance yesterday went too far, according to the people familiar with Mr. Trumps thinking.
Weekly Standard: Rule #1 for press relations is that you can obfuscate, you can misrepresent, you can shade the truth to a ridiculous degree, or play dumb and pretend not to know things you absolutely do know. But you cant peddle affirmative, provable falsehoods. And its not because theres some code of honor among press secretaries, but because once youre a proven liar in public, you cant adequately serve your principal. Every principal needs a spokesman who has the ability, in a crunch, to tell the press something important and know that theyll be believed 100 percent, without reservation.

(50,993 posts)He's only distancing himself because it backfired horribly when Spicer did as he was told. Cheeto can't admit fault so someone else has to.

(9,894 posts)what I'm thinking may save us from too much Trumpian damage. Chaos reigns, as it surely will, and they can't get their way clear to actually accomplish much. Unfortunately, I doubt Congress will have the same problem. Although, considering Trump's ability to create churn, he may just manage to hobble them too.

(115,829 posts)Trump would be watching. But it didn't play well, so Trump will probably throw Spicer under the bus and claim he (Spicer) shouldn't have said those things. Loyalty is a one-way street in Trump's universe.

(9,033 posts)The good news is Cheeto seems to be paying attention so we need to keep jumping on every misstep with both feet. It might slow down the depredation until we can throw enough people out of office to make a difference (it will help if Republican PTB find they can't control that idiot and decide to impeach him).
Squinch
(50,993 posts)will deny that he ever told Spicer to say that, even though Spicer probably said exactly what he was told.

(2,795 posts)Spicer was probably ordered by Trump to get out there and do something about this. Like Spicer decided all on his own.
His people better watch because there is no loyalty with Trump. If it helps him to throw you to the wolves, he will.

(1,074 posts)Why would tRUMP have to distance himself from Spicer when tRUMP told the exact same lie himself? He is out there saying that his crowd is bigger than any other inauguration crowd ever! So, no need to distance himself from spicer...they're both on the same page!

(9,966 posts)...wrong, albeit convincing. It's not that complicated. Spicer reflected Trump's opinion perfectly; he would have been fired for not doing what his boss asked, and he seemed uncomfortable in the task.
RobinA
(9,894 posts)I would have some sympathy for people who, as part of their jobs, have to do things they are uncomfortable with. I'm one of them. However, anybody who agrees to work with Trump has to know what they are getting themselves in for. One thing you have to say about the guy, he doesn't hide who he is to anybody who can hear and add 2 +2.

(89,262 posts)i think it was during the process of find a sec of state and the whole thing with Romney. Conway went on some shows and kind of trashed Romney and then there were things released as in the article in this OP about how trump was upset with Conway .
Trump is treating all of this like some reality show .

(10,238 posts)I'm sure the entrenched republican hierarchy is already meeting and making plans on how to proceed post trump. These guys aren't idiots, even if you don't like their politics, and they must realize Trump is a dangerous loser. As soon as it becomes clear he is too much a liability they will join the Dump Trump bandwagon. But not before they use him to achieve as much as they can of their own agenda. I've expected Trump to bump heads with the main stream republicans right away; I guess we'll see how long his handlers can keep him from disaster.

(803 posts)Does anyone really think that McCain, et al, have just forgotten everything that this guy said?
They are patiently biding their time. Like Queeg said, they're going to get as much of their agenda through as possible.
Then, there's going to be 100 things to impeach him on. Hell, you could probably use Emoulments already. But the wind of public opinion has to be stronger, and there has to be more to gain by ditching him... then lose by ditching him.
These are politicians, for Chrissake. They've got their finger in the air all the time. If things get dicey they'll protest mildly. But once it gets too fierce, they'll think to themselves... "hey, only 15% of America supports Trump, and Pence can take over, let's throw the guy overboard!!!"
It's only a matter of time.

(18,652 posts)For one, he did not run for Pres. 2nd, Hillary had 2.8 million more votes than Trump. I say we fight to get Hillary in. Of course the rabid R's would never go for it in Congress. How about a national referendum?
wordpix
(18,652 posts)is upsetting things already and can R's even get peace in their House enough to do their "agenda" before they dump Trump? Elected officials need to step in. Stop leaving the reprimands of Trump to John Brennan and Dems and prove you love your country.
That brings me to The Big Question: Do they put country and people ahead of making even more money as part of the military-industrial-Congressional complex? Really, this is how we need to frame their decisions in Congress.

(13,616 posts)is about to get fired! Oh Spicer tried to get sweet today, but the damage is done as there's no way for him to be believed on anything. he is Trump's own Baghdad Bob.
of course it would be a true sick twist if one of the names considered for this job actually gets hired one Milo Yannopiulis. granted we all know not to believe his lying ass, but he would do the job in such a way that it would almost be like a Saturday Night Live skit, sans intelligence, insight or talent.
