Key Claims in Trump Dossier Said to Come From Head of Russian-American Business Group

Source: WSJ

Some of the most explosive parts of a dossier containing unverified allegations that President Donald Trump had secret ties to Russian leaders originated from the Belarus-born head of a Russian-American business group, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Sergei Millian, a 38-year-old American citizen who has claimed he helped market Trump properties to Russian buyers, wasn’t a direct source for the 35-page dossier, this person said. Rather, his statements about the Trump-Russia relationship were relayed by at least one third party to the British ex-spy who prepared the dossier, the person said.

Among the unverified allegations of Mr. Millian’s that an intermediary passed along, the person said: The claim that the Russians had compromising video of Mr. Trump that could be used to blackmail him, and a claim that there was a “conspiracy of cooperation” between the Trump camp and Russian leadership that involved hacking the computers of Mr. Trump’s Democratic opponents.

...

Mr. Millian, who posted photos of himself at several VIP events at the Trump inauguration last week, said in an email that the information in the dossier was “fake news (created by sick minds),” and was “an attempt to distract the future president from real work.”

a thread over in the Economy Forum about a minute ago. It's from TWSJ. I went in via Google News, and the paywall was in place.

Most public libraries have a subscription to TWSJ. and many other big newspapers online. You can try accessing the newspapers by logging in with your library card number. The Alexandria, Virginia, library, for example does that.

Best wishes.

I don't have a subscription to the WSJ, so I couldn't read the full article. But the excerpt is intriguing!

many, many names across a very broad group of people invested in Russian corruption.

was it Manafort trump? and some of those 75 Russians Obama had to short-notice evict/deport from America?

or whatever republicans created & gave you that 'list of generals' to pick your admin from?

I am not impressed. Russkies working overtime to pump up Trump. The story is out there. If the pee part is not true it will forever stain the fucking asshole Trump. I think this is fake news. It's spy versus spy. I do know Trump is connected to Russia and China and Putin helped Trump. That is never going to change. Flynn. Tillerson. The far left. So many working so hard to deny the Russian angles. I have never seen such vehemence in my life. When someone has to work so hard to shout it at you I smell stank.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I can imagine the howls from right wingers if the WP cited "according to a person familiar with the matter." A person "familiar with the matter" could be someone who just read an account on Facebook.

Or NYTimes.

The WSJ is a Murdoch rag now and the NYTimes purportedly has Russian assets working there. And considering how their Public Editor carries Trump's water, I believe it.

US-Russian Businessman Said to Be Source of Key Trump Dossier Claims
By BRIAN ROSS MATTHEW MOSK Jan 24, 2017, 5:03 PM ET

<snip>

Millian did not answer questions put to him by ABC News over the weekend and again Tuesday.

<snip>

In recent weeks, Trump’s team has said Millian is not who is says he is -- he never worked in any capacity with the Trump Organization, and who had to be warned to stop describing himself as a Trump-approved broker. Millian had for months granted interviews in Russian media making that claim. And he did so during his interview with ABC News in July 2016.

Michael Cohen, who is now President’s Trump’s personal lawyer, told ABC News that he exchanged emails with Millian in order to tell him to stop exaggerating his ties to the Trump Organization. Cohen says he wrote Millian to say it had become clear “that you too are seeking media attention off of this false narrative of a Trump-Russia alliance,” and to ask him to stop “attempting to inject yourself into this crazy, Clinton campaign lie.”

<snip>

Both Cohen and the developer of Trump Hollywood, the Related Group, told ABC News that they never had a signed agreement with Millian. “Related has no record of having paid Sergei Millian as a broker or otherwise,” the real estate company said in a statement to ABC News.

<snip>

“I’ve never met the guy,” Cohen said. “I have spoken to him twice. The first time, he was proposing to do something. He’s in real estate. I told him we have no interest. Second time he called me I asked him not to call me anymore.”
