President Donald Trump signed executive orders Tuesday advancing the controversial Keystone XL and Dakota Access oil pipelines.
"If we're going to be building pipelines in the United States, we'll build the pipes in the United States," Trump said in signing the executive orders.
He also acknowledged dispute over the Keystone pipeline, and told reporters in the Oval Office that the moves on the pipelines will be subject to the terms and conditions being renegotiated by the United States.

(3,040 posts)Every American citizen will own the oil spill because it will be the tax payers that pay for the clean ups and not the corporation that owns the pipelines.

(59,507 posts)Trans Canada. My greatest fear, was that after the State Department received a report that excluded the damage from extracting the tar sands and concentrated JUST on climate change impact, that President Obama and Secretary Kerry might be forced by all the pressure to agree to it. Glad that they stood up to pressure and ignored the report's conclusion.
Instead, Secretary Kerry can easily be seen as the secretary of state who has made protection the environment his signature issue as much as Clinton made the welfare of women and children hers -- and President Obama backed both of them on their issues.

Too bad there isnt a way for their intentional act to be rewarded directly to them by the climate.

(442 posts)he and the GOP are knocking down all liberal agendas for the past 50 years! So what good did it do for Obama to stop the pipeline if liberals were going to vote their principles for write-in candidates or not vote for HRC? Nothing Obama accomplished will be left standing within 6 months . . . will the public care? Only the liberals and they will not be organized enough to take him down at midterms probably not even within 4 years!

(15,224 posts)But from comments I've seen, you're absolutely correct that so many there think the protestors and protectors are a hindrance. In 25 years when those people are gasping for air because they've been poisoned, they may be singing a different tune.
That's the part that absolutely baffles me. The detractors cannot see what's on the horizon. Absolute stupidity.
