In Trump freeze, US agencies delay rules affecting farm towns

Source: Reuters

24 JAN 2017 AT 16:08 ET

The Environmental Protection Agency will delay implementation of the Renewable Fuels Standard and the Agriculture Department will pause rules affecting livestock as part of a freeze on regulations imposed by President Donald Trump’s administration, trade groups said on Tuesday.

Trump’s regulatory freeze has created uncertainties in rural communities – areas which helped propel him into office.

The Trump administration put a hold on new regulations immediately after he was sworn in last week, leading to the delayed implementation of 30 EPA rules that were finalized in the last weeks of Barack Obama’s presidency. That included new standards for blending biofuels with oil-based fuels.

Representatives of the EPA and U.S. Department of Agriculture could not immediately be reached for comment.

That should be interesting. Bad enough he messes with their biofuels, messing with subsidies would be the last straw for some.

Trump needs to cut A LOT of spending to pay for his goals of balancing the budget while increasing defense spending, paying for that fucking wall and massively cutting taxes. Eliminating farm subsidies is a quick way to get rid of a lot of spending.

I expect they will completely eliminate SNAP from it and will say they need that funds savings to keep the farm subsidies in place (for those corporate farmers that need just a bit more of a helping hand to "Make America Great Again™&quot .

Can't look ahead and make a measured decision about anything. Just knee-jerk, political, ideological, bull in a china shop moves that somebody told him would be a good idea.

if he expects to have corn next summer, but he is screwin around in ways that will impact demand, he should know farmers arent usually happy gamblers.

I'm glad I got in under the rope. We got a tremendous cost sharing deal on a high tunnel to grow fresh veggies in. We put the money up front but once approved gov't paid 3/4 of the cost of buying it and putting it up.
