Ford Motor Co. swung to a net loss of $800 million in the fourth quarter of 2016, as special charges related to the company’s pension plans and the cancellation of a plant in Mexico overshadowed strong operating results in North America and improving profitability in Europe.

I'm not saying a weak dollar is good, but byproduct of a strong dollar is that it makes US exports more expensive. That's an issue that few address when talking about trade imbalances.

both used the weak dollar to improve exports. And, they were both bigly deficit spenders, too.

It was Kissinger who set up the petrodollar system. We should have been weaning ourselves off the petrodollar tit for decades but we haven't. The system will crumble eventually, and when it does, things will get really, really bad.
