She must know that he's batshit crazy. She's probably trying to calculate whether she should drag the UK's feet in exiting the EU. With Trumpy running his show, no one knows what he will actually do. But I'd imagine that the UK has its own dossier on Trumpy. They know about Steele's dossier and the increasing likelihood that it's got some truth to it. May is trying to figure out to what extent Putin owns Trumpy. She pushed Trumpy to at least SAY that he backs NATO. And we now know that Trumpy WANTS May to like him, so he folds. Now he at least sounds committed. But Trumpy also knows that the heat is on, and he can't bamboozle his way into lifting sanctions. Everyone's catching on. And that was May's message to Trumpy.

It's because Putin has the goods on Trumpy, but Trumpy now has to display loyalty to London and the EU, and thusly, to NATO. In the timeline, which always tells a lot of the story, May visits Trumpy BEFORE Trumpy talks to Putin. That's a key part of the story, because May will be the last foreign leader with whom he speaks before he talks with Putin.

But remember that Putin doesn't like being disappointed. He put a lot of time and money into cultivating Trumpy, and won't like it one bit of Trumpy turns cold. So we can expect that Putin will start throwing hints of exposing parts of Steele's dossier. I know it sounds like a cheap novel, but Trumpy may be getting his balls squeezed. Another DU blog poster pasted a news item indicating that a person linked to the Steele dossier has been murdered in Russia under "mysterious circumstances."
