Canada to increase reproductive health funding in response to Trump decision

Source: CBC

Canada will increase its funding to international organizations that provide abortion-related services after U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order blocking American funding for those services.

In an interview with As It Happens guest host Helen Mann on Friday, Minister of International Development Marie-Claude Bibeau said the Liberal government would support a Dutch-led initiative to fund international programs supporting women's reproductive health.

Asked if she was worried about angering the American government with her vocal opposition to their policy, Bibeau said she was not.

"Women's rights is too important for us to make a compromise on that," she said.

We shouldn't have to ask for permission to leave our own country. That is very Soviet of our country.

You need a passport, but you don't need permission to leave the country.

Passports are required to enter other countries. They aren't always checked when you leave a country.

It looks like other countries are going to have to lead the way in all humanitarian efforts for the next four years, since even if Trump is impeached, we'll be stuck with Pence, who is even worse for women's rights, and probably every humanitarian cause.
