Koch network criticizes Trump's immigration order
Source: The Hill
Leaders of the Koch network on Sunday criticized President Trump's executive order barring refugees and people from seven majority-Muslim countries from entering the U.S.
"We believe it is possible to keep Americans safe without excluding people who wish to come here to contribute and pursue a better life for their families," said Brian Hooks, the president of the Charles Koch Foundation, who is co-chairing a weekend conference of donors who help finance the Koch operation, according to The Washington Post.
The travel ban is the wrong approach and will likely be counterproductive.

Charles Koch last year spoke out against Trump's proposed Muslim ban, calling it "antithetical to our approach." He said the idea to require Muslims to register was "reminiscent of Nazi Germany." A top GOP fundraiser, Koch and many of his top donors refused to support Trump during the campaign.

(129,062 posts)and the result would be a ramp up again of U.S. oil. I.e., the Saudi push had kept the prices low to drive the U.S. producers out of the market due to the cost to produce. It will have to be a delicate balance.
<...>
The OPEC-engineered price rally has spurred a surge in drilling in the U.S. shale patch. Rigs targeting crude in the U.S. rose by 15 to 566 last week, the highest since November 2015, according to Baker Hughes Inc.

And with Drumpf in office, Keystone will be a reality.

(11,257 posts)Just note that oil was feeling a lot of pressure to the downside as Iran's sanctions were looking like they would be lifted...on the lift, oil went down further - it does affect Brent more than WTI, but the spread between those two need to be somewhat tight now that we are allowed to export oil (oil is quasi-fungible).
Agree with your point though - hard for oil to go much above 60-65 as more shale producers come on line - especially after they slashed the cost of production for dirty fracky oil since the plunge.

(129,062 posts)depends on what the dollar does and if speculators decide to re-enter this commodity again. And with Keystone apparently on again, Canada will eventually accelerate their tar sands oil into the market (unless Trudeau is able to slow that down) and add more supply (with the goal to have it refined in Texas).

I get the Koch's - they're the same GOP type free market bullshit.
The Mercers - not sure what they want in "tearing it down" except does that make them better able to compete with the Kochs in the aftermath?

The wall, the proposed trade wars and taxes, and the immigration ban would all impinge on corporate profits and the general economy.
If Trump is to be removed in the next two years, it must be at the hands of the Republican Congress. None of the conventional appeals to decency and sanity will work on them if they believe they can get a couple of Supreme Court seats and some of their agenda rammed through...UNTIL Trump really starts to fuck up the bottom line.
It's a case of 'the enemy of my enemy'.
For those, like me, who are trapped with Republican Senators and Reps, I recommend contacting them and complaining like you are a staunch supporter who is deeply concerned about how the new president is harming your business interests.
It may be the only way for us all to survive this.
