Ireland to review US customs pre-clearance at Irish airports

Source: Reuters

30 JAN 2017 AT 14:33 ET

Ireland will conduct a complete review of U.S. customs pre-clearance arrangements at its airports following the concern caused by President Donald Trump’s curbs on immigration, the government said on Monday.

Ireland’s Dublin and Shannon airports are among a handful of locations outside North America where passengers can clear customs and immigration before traveling to the United States under an international agreement between the two governments.

Pre-clearance duties are carried out by U.S. officials who have been carrying out the four-month hold Trump put on allowing refugees into the United States and temporary barring of travelers from Syria, Iran, Iraq, Yemen, Libya, Somalia and Sudan, the U.S. Embassy in Dublin said.

“I have asked for a complete review of the pre-clearance facilities here in Ireland. I would say that pre-clearance has been of enormous convenience, so these are issues that we are happy to negotiate upon,” Prime Minister Enda Kenny told a joint news conference with British Prime Minister Theresa May.

I'm thinking that the Global Entry Program will be halted in the near future by this fucking thug administration.

We start and finish in Dublin but we're essentially making one big circle across the country. This is the first time we've done anything like this one, but we're very excited as both of us have family times to Ireland. The only thing I'm nervous about is getting used to driving on the left!

other side as well, so it will help.

Two weeks is good, but if I could offer some bits of advice

1 You may think that you can do it all in two weeks, don't !
2 Get out of Dublin as soon as you can
3 The West and South Coast have been put together as the Wild Atlantic Way, and it has been extremely well received by visitors and locals alike. http://www.wildatlanticway.com/home
4 I'd stay in 3 or 4 places, perhaps Sligo (to get at Donegal, Leitrim and North Mayo), Galway (for Connemara and Clare/Burren), Killarney (for Ring of Kerry and Dingle) and Cork City (for West/East Cork including Kinsale/Clonakilty/Cobh)

If you've any questions let me know.

I hope all of those business travelers begin to hate Trump in that hundredth hour of traveling when they are tired and thinking that this is unnecessary except for the moron's actions.

It would hurt us Irish as much as anyone else. It can save a couple hours queueing on the US side once you land.

and it is really nice to deal with this at the beginning of a long trip home rather than at the end. The local Irish people are not Trump fans. I hope the Irish and Irish tourists boycott Trump's golf club located in Doonbeg.

It's so nice to disembark from a long flight and not have to deal with the hassle of customs and immigration. It's treated just like a domestic arrival.

I really hope this review doesn't affect the agreement in a negative way.
