Cuomo to propose constitutional amendment to protect Roe v. Wade in New York

ALBANY — Expressing concerns that Roe v. Wade could soon be overturned, Gov. Cuomo Monday said he would propose a constitutional amendment to protect the law in New York.

Wearing a pink scarf around his neck given to him as he took the stage, Cuomo made the announcement to a crowded Planned Parenthood rally at the state Capitol complex.

“As you know, our rights are under attack in Washington,” Cuomo said. “And as they seek to limit women’s rights, we in New York seek to protect them. As they pull on women’s rights, we are going to push back on women’s rights.

“And as they threaten this nation with a possible Supreme Court nominee who will reverse Roe v. Wade, I want them to know today, if that’s what they do, we’re going to protect Roe v. Wade in the state of New York.”
