Boy Scouts ends policy barring transgender boys from boys-only programs

The Boy Scouts of America will allow transgender boys into all their programs, ending a policy mandating that Cub Scouts must be listed as boys on their birth certificates.
“Starting today, we will accept and register youth in the Cub and Boy Scout programs based on the gender identity indicated on the application,” the group’s director of communications said in a statement to the Daily News.
“Our organization’s local councils will help find units that can provide for the best interest of the child.”
The Texas-based group’s decision comes after a northern New Jersey transgender boy is believed to have been the first rejected from a scout pack because of his gender identity.
