Senate Democrats Call For Investigation Into Trump Officials Failure To Obey Court Orders

Source: Huffington Post

Illinois Sens. Tammy Duckworth and Dick Durbin want an investigation into the Department of Homeland Security’s response to a federal court order that temporarily halted parts of President Donald Trump’s recent immigration-related executive order.

In a letter sent Sunday night to DHS Inspector General John Roth, Duckworth and Durbin ― the Senate’s second-highest-ranking Democrat ― called for the department’s Office of the Inspector General to lead the investigation into DHS and Customs and Border Protection’s conduct.

The letter also cited concerns over reports that legal permanent residents were detained at Chicago O’Hare International Airport Saturday “for long periods of time with no access to legal counsel” and allegations that “CBP Officers and potentially other Department personnel, failed to comply with a temporary restraining order.”
...
“The United States Constitution means little if law enforcement agents disregard it, or if Americans are unwilling to defend its principles and respect foundational constitutional rights, from due process to equal protection under the law.”

Our democracy is bigger than any one person or department in government. As crazy as this all seems we have been here before. It took Nixon 5 years to unravel, it only took Donny 5 days. Soon even republicans will understand his threat to their re-election and then the worm will turn.

I see them both as dangerous. I suspect when this house of cards falls it may take them both down. If not - perhaps Pence will be damaged so badly that his role will be no more than placeholder until the next election. Regardless - our democracy will bend but it will not break. There are just too many citizens in the street for anything like a "Normal" Administration to continue.

president Ryan would be better than pence. He is typical establishment kinda like Romney. He is completey gutless (like romney), we know how to deal with these types. It is infinitely safer than trump. Ryan is not very bright so he'll do what sponsors tell him to do. At least I do not recall him ever using racist or homophobic rhetoric. He has zero charisma and won't get elected.

He faced opposition from alt-right challenger and spoke in harsh terms about the movements. Alt-right hates him! That's a plus already.

I don't want to jinx this. My fantasy is that they drag their feet on impeachment, waiting for disapproval ratings in the 20s. By then, info comes out sullying Pence as well. The Republicans lose the majority in the House in 2018. The Senate impeaches. Voila! President Pelosi!

They are actively deligitimzing existing court system, one of the important steps in transition to autoritarian regime. The doubt is already planted that judge orders not followed. They will double down on this. All of it is intentional. He doesn't need congress, everything via EO. He can do absolutely ANYTHING and get away with it, because the house will never impeach him. He can not be removed any other way. They planned it all the way through.

that's what's so irritating. I beleive one of the reasons is that the truth is so profoundly terrifying that very few people are prepared for it; and they would simply dismiss it. But it's important that they still read what the truth is, because they will start seeing it soon.

I am mostly disappointed with all media. Where is journalism? Where is CNN investigation on Dugin, Bannon, Surkov, Putin? Enormous army of russian-based trolls? Where is coverage of Le Pen, Wilders, etc. Coverage of techniques used such gaslighting, autoritarian regimes, etc. DUMB!!

...Trump is destroying the good faith and credit of the United States, which is one of the world's most stable because we are perceived as being a nation of laws. (Much to argue with there, but it is how we are perceived on the world stage.)

Once he destroys that kind of credibility, our bonds will be just flimsy pieces of paper.
