More than $900,000 raised to rebuild fire-ravaged Texas mosque
By Curtis Skinner
More than $900,000 has been raised in an online fundraiser for a south Texas mosque destroyed by fire over the weekend, exceeding the amount needed to rebuild the place of worship, according to the fundraising page on Monday.
The GoFundMe page for the Victoria Islamic Center received donations from more than 19,000 people in the two days after the mosque, about 125 miles (200 km) southwest of Houston, was gutted by flames early on Saturday.
The blaze has been classified as "suspicious," said Victoria city spokesman O.C. Garza.
"Our hearts are filled with gratitude for the tremendous support we've received," mosque leaders said in a statement on the online fundraising page. "The outpouring of love, kind words, hugs, helping hands and the financial contributions are examples of the true American Spirit."

(111,277 posts)because the building was completely gutted and much has collapsed. Whoever set it (if it was set) is someone who needs to be off the street forever.
I'm just glad there are enough good people out there to donate to rebuild and I love that they've been invited to hold their services in a Jewish temple until it is.
This lets me know there are always going to be more of us than there are of them and it's time for us to wake the fuck up.
