Democrats House floor speech invokes power of impeachment over Trumps Middle East treachery

Source: Rawstory

p. Mark Pocan (D-WI) became one of the first lawmakers to speak on the House floor about impeaching President Donald Trump on Thursday.
...
“These countries were excluded from the executive order despite being home to many of the terrorists who carried out 9/11,” Pocan explained. “I’m not saying we should ban people from these countries. I firmly oppose any ban based on nationality or religion. But it is unacceptable that business interests have played potentially a role in such a destructive policy, a policy that also makes our country less safe in the long run.”
...
“Mr. President, it’s time for you to fix this,” he demanded. “One, divest your business holding immediately to remove any suggestion of conflicts in your decision making. Two, show us your tax returns so financial interests are transparent to the American people. And three, get rid of your unconstitutional executive order, which will make us less safe and only serve to embolden our enemies.”

“Short of that, we’ll have to take other actions, including legislative directives, resolutions of disapproval and even explore the power of impeachment,” Pocan concluded, earning him a rebuke from the Speaker’s chair.

And I do hold have a spark of hope for the 115th Congress. And I encourage others to "have their back." (But we also need to light a fire under their backsides if they falter.)

I thanked him for having the courage to speak out, and that we needed more Democrats like him. I let the person who answered the phone know that I was not in his district, but I thought Rep. Pocan should know he does not stand alone. The guy who answered the phone thanked me and said Rep. Pocan would be glad to hear that. I encourage others to call - it's time for the Democratic to take the gloves off.

Most of you probably know that you can't use the contact on websites unless you live in the district. Calling is better anyway.

The Russian one isnt either unless the connection can be proven to be criminal like he actively colluded and or coordinated with them to leak that information about Hillary and the Republicans are going to do all they can to prevent such evidence from emerging if it exists and none of the rest including the inflaming our allies is an impeachable offense.
Impeaching a president is designed to have an extremely high bar to pass which is why there has never been a successful impeachment of a sitting president though Nixon came damn close which is why he resigned.

Granted its not perfect because right now we have both an unstable president and an unstable political party in majority control of Congress and that means our last hope is the Courts to keep them in check , if they fail us we are well and truly screwed.

"High Crimes and Misdemeanors" could mean any thing the House decides it to be. One of the articles that Andrew Johnson was impeached for was that he spoke ill of Congress in a loud voice.

"That said Andrew Johnson . . . unmindful of the high duties of his office and the dignity and proprieties thereof . . . did attempt to bring into disgrace, ridicule, hatred, contempt and reproach the Congress of the United States, and several branches thereof, to impair and destroy the regard and respect of all the good people of the United States for the Congress and legislative power thereof . . . and in pursuance of his said design and intent openly and publicly, and before divers assemblages of the citizens of the United States convened in divers parts thereof to meet and receive said Andrew Johnson as the Chief Magistrate of the United States, did . . . make and deliver with a loud voice certain intemperate, inflammatory and scandalous harangues, and did therein utter loud threats and bitter menaces as well against Congress . . . amid the cries, jeers and laughter of the multitudes then assembled. . . ."

ties with them!!! HE DID NOT CHOOSE THOSE COUNTRIES AT ALL. Obama did. That's because they ARE "countries of concern", all of them having failed governments with whom we cannot effectively exchange valid information about immigrants. And most have active ISIS groups now. The security situation is getting worse.

2018 is right around the corner. If we want to have a leg up after those elections, we need to get smart fast.
