Americans Praise Trump's Executive Orders, Poll Shows
Source: International Business times
President Donald Trump has evidently found a popular poll that isnt fake news. The commander-in-chief, under fire for and awaiting the ruling of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling on his immigration ban, tweeted out a Morning Consult/Politico poll that shows a majority or plurality of Americans support his executive orders.
In particular, the results show that 55 percent of the 2,070 respondents support both revoking federal funding to sanctuary cities and the same percentage are for the ban that locked out immigrants for seven Muslim-majority countries. In contrast, 33 percent disapproved of the sanctuary cities de-funding and 38 percent disapproved of the immigration ban.
The poll also examined the respondents' approval or disapproval to Trumps nine other executive orders, including on federal government spending freezes (54 percent approve), delays or ignoring parts of the Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare (49 percent) and fast-tracking the construction of the highly controversial and much disputed Keystone XL pipeline.
All told, Trump scored no lower than a 46 percent approval for any of the orders. His long-running campaign promise to build a border wall to hinder Mexican immigrants received 48 percent approval and his withdrawal from the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal garnered 47 percent approval.

(94,591 posts)...that's an easy excuse for people who don't like to read news they disagree with; POLITICO, as the name suggests, writes about politics from an "inside the beltway" perspective, but both Parties come in for coverage and criticism.

(17,387 posts)...This is how Trump became the Republican nominee in the first place.
We are not going to win Congress or even get to the issues unless we address how Republicans are using hate to not only oppress minorities, but white working class voters.
Put another way, the most popular misconception is that it is the Democrats that are playing identity politics. To the contrary, by catering and promoting prejudice and hate, Republicans are able to get white working class voters to support programs that economically hurt them for the benefit of the very rich.

(20,875 posts)However, Morning Consult/Politico did point out that Trumps overall job approval rating continues to trend downward. Gallups most recent results taken between Jan. 30 and Feb. 5 - show only 43 percent of Americans approve of the work Trumps done and his highest mark has only been 46 percent, three days after his inauguration last month.
So?

Some interesting excerpts from nydailynews.com link just above
The latest poll found that his disapproval ratings rose five percentage points to 46%.
((47 approval, 46 disapproval, just to show where Morning Consult/Politico poll falls on this measure, while polls by others have him at like at several points negative on this one - Progree))
The poll's results about the travel ban, however, contradict the results of other recent polls.
A CNN/ORC survey out over the weekend found that 53% Americans opposed Trump's travel ban. That poll also found 55% of Americans said they interpreted the ban as a way to bar Muslims from entering the U.S.

(17,387 posts)...a lot of Americans share his prejudices and his ignorance, but they never give public voice to such opinions. Trump wears his hate for everyone to see, and Americans do not like the look. Put another way, a lot of Americans will insist that they are not racist or prejudiced, but will agree with racial profiling and adopt a lot of stereotyped views.
I take it as a good point that folks do not approve of Trump. Eventually, if you see how ignorant he is being proven to be, then perhaps folks will re-examine their own views and whether or not they are as unbiased as they would like to think they actually are. It is not "common sense." It is racism, sexism and xenophobia.

(14,174 posts)Most every real journalist has more liberal beliefs. Most large cities, especially on the coasts are more liberal. And the coasts get way more attention than the middle of America because New York and Los Angeles are media/entertainment centers. So it seemed before the election that all signs were pointing to a Hillary win. It is like a blackout in middle America. Their only political talk radio is extremist right wing pro-Trump and demonizing the Democrats 24/7. They don't even know what's going on. Or at least no one who sees things as we do with communications skills have had access to explain things to them. So all they know is what Rush and Hannity say. And even more importantly, they hear nothing in context such as Elizabeth Warrens expulsion today. They don't even hear of some stories, or else all they hear or read is fake news with alternate facts on the stories.
And DU is of course in a much more protected smaller bubble.
There has to be a greater effort to reach these people. They simply cannot all be such deplorably racist, sexist, bigots.

Here's a map that showed the population density back in 2010...
Of course because of our fucked up electoral college and gerrymandering we have an orange shit in office now, and a bunch of groupies in Congress. Ugh.

(4,229 posts)In the months before the election I was in Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland, and Kentucky. I saw numerous Trump signs and bumper stickers. I saw 1 Clinton one here in WV and I saw one Clinton bumper sticker on the outskirts of DC.
Even a friend with a degree in suburban DC was voting for Trump because he has a landscaping business and was losing money because immigrants were undercutting him on price. This is a guy who used to be liberal.
The enthusiasm was with the Trump people. A lot of the union guys around here always voted democratic because of the GOP's hatred of unions. Trump took the working class vote away from the dems with his so far faux pro worker talk and also was pro gun. That's a winning strategy in the rust belt.
