AFL-CIO: Trump's new Labor pick 'deserves serious consideration'

One of the biggest forces in labor unions is welcoming President Trump's new pick for Labor secretary, after harshly criticizing Trump's since-withdrawn first choice.

The American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) on Thursday offered praise for Alexander Acosta shortly after Trump announced his nomination.

"Working people changed the game on this nomination. Unlike Andy Puzder, Alexander Acosta's nomination deserves serious consideration. In one day, we've gone from a fast-food CEO who routinely violates labor law to a public servant with experience enforcing it," AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka said, according to NBC News's Carrie Dann.

Trump nominated Acosta after Andy Puzder on Wednesday withdrew his nomination to head up the Labor Department amid growing opposition in the Senate.
