MCCONNELL INTENDS TO REPLACE 'OBAMACARE' WITHOUT DEMOCRATS

Source: Associated Press

BY ERICA WERNER
AP CONGRESSIONAL CORRESPONDENT

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Republicans will repeal and replace the health care law and overhaul the tax code without Democratic help or votes, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Friday.

"It's clear that in the early months it's going to be a Republicans-only exercise," the Kentucky senator said at a news conference before lawmakers left for a weeklong President's Day recess. "We don't expect any Democratic cooperation on the replacement of Obamacare, we don't expect any Democratic cooperation on tax reform."

McConnell has condemned Democrats for passing Obamacare in the first place, in 2010, without any Republican votes, claiming the partisan exercise set the law up to fail. "The mess to come was inevitable," McConnell wrote in his memoir last year.

But now he's promising the same approach himself, in a sign that the partisanship and polarization dividing the country and Congress under President Donald Trump will not end anytime soon.

So now Republicans are having their way and will have their way on legislation as long as they control the legislative branch but Democrats better find a way to fight back or Republicans will keep that Majority.

So it did not pass under reconciliation rules as McConnell plans with his bills. CBO will need to score McConnell's bill and report the impact on the national deficit over the next 10 years. How can McConnell spin the $5 trillion it will add to the deficit over 10 years? Will the deficit hawks stomach this? He runs into the same problem with "tax reform", perhaps bigger. Obama reduced the amount of the deficit each of his last 7 years in office. Put that chart up there with the expected Trump deficit and it should be a really hard sell. How does Ryan get it through the House? No room for an infrastructure bill with these two wrecking the budget. Republicans simply can't govern. It is not in their DNA.

Full post @ Feb. 3rd thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10141688587#post13

For sure, Congressman Paul Ryan knows the repeal of the PPACA will create a deficit and Republicans know the repeal will create a large deficit. To make sure no one else knows, Mr. Ryan has blocked the CBO from analyzing it before repeal. Also unbeknownst to many, if the CBO does not do its typical independent analysis of the costs (if any) created by the PPACA repeal and how much it increases the deficit, there is no requirement for the legislation to expire after 10 years. Republicans would have repealed the PPACA as they have wanted to do since 2010, and would have blocked it from ever coming back after 10 years. "

They don't want to spend $ on poor people, their whole raison d'etre is to give to the rich and take from the poor.

This is actually good, in the long run. Repugs need to own this catastrophe in the making, lock, stock and barrel. If dems went along, we'd also be complicit in this, which would be a truly bad thing come election time. Now, it will be trumpcare and only trumpcare and they will take the heat, which is only fair and right. if they think people will just die quietly, they are so wrong. People will rise up and are rising up right now at townhall meetings all over the country. Now in the short term, my family will get fucked when I retire in Nov. because my husband has a chronic condition and won't be covered by my insurance anymore. He manages a auto repair shop and there is no benefits whatsoever. We had planned on getting him on the ACA, but that is now just a faint hope. With my health issues, I'm really struggling to manage my very intense job. EVen so, I'm considering delaying retirement if J can't find a new job. Getting a job at nearly 60 isn't easy. He's sent out so many resumes, no response, even though he's very successful at his job and has a GREAT repair and customer approval record. I'll be attending a townhall if Crenshaw has the guts to have one, which I doubt.
