Susan Collins: Subpoena of Trump Tax Records Possible in Russia Probe
Source: MSN/U.S. News & World Report
Sen. Susan Collins on Wednesday left open the possibility of issuing a subpoena for President Donald Trump's tax records as lawmakers probe Russia's interference in last year's election.
The Maine Republican said the decision of whether to force the president to turn over his financial details would be made by Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr R-N.C., and Vice Chairman Mark Warner, D-Va. as the committee attempts to determine the extent to which the Trump campaign was in contact with Russian officials.
"My hope is that we'll have a lot of voluntary cooperation," Collins told Maine Public Radio on Wednesday. "And keep in mind that in some ways, this is a counterintelligence operation in many ways and that's what our committee specializes in."
Collins also said former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn would be asked to testify before the committee.

(26,319 posts)However because of the stonewalling of the Congressional Repugnants to actually investigate what Russia did to interfere in our elections I am of the opinion that certain higher ups of the Congressional Repugnants may have been involved with Russia in the hacking either by aiding them or asking them to do it if not both which is why they are stonewalling.

(7,800 posts)Because I'd bet any amount that Trump was involved or certainty kept in the loop about the election hacking - not just the strategic dumps of Hillary's emails, but the actual hacking of the vote tallies in key counties in the swing states. The invisible rural white man (relegated to only swing states) I predict will be proven to be utter bullshit - A.K.A. - Fake News!

(26,319 posts)My belief is largely based on Mitch's stonewalling of an investigation because you would think that he and other Repugnants would want to find out what if any truth to the rumor but if they themselves"are" the link then it makes for a very good reason why they would stonewall so much.
Now I know that automatic response would be that they would not because Trump is a Repugnant like them but I suspect that if they could they would have moved on Trump already to put Pence into office rather than deal with Donald the Wonder Blunder but if there is a risk that they themselves could be caught they won't do shit which oddly enough is what they are doing so far.

(2,037 posts)I doubt Bitchy Mitchy will show too much interest in this, when he himself has so much worth investigating.

(26,319 posts)so hard to stonewall the investigation into Russian interference in the US elections or why he wont start an official into the voter fraud claims by Trump when Trump and Mitches own party have been the prime mover for restrictive Voter ID laws based on the claim that they are needed because of voter fraud.
Makes me also wonder if there is fraud involved with our elections all right but if it isnt voter fraud rather maybe its election fraud and thats why Mitch doesnt want any investigation started because if any investigation gets started it could inadvertently uncover some upper level Repugnants committing an extremely major crime?

How did she manage to go "off the reservation"? Mitch will be having talks with her soon. He blocked all investigations into tRump's taxes, and he got a plumb job for his "wife" in this mis-administration. The gop should start paying attention to their constituents, IF they want to keep their cushy jobs.

Just like everything else about Trump and GOP and Russia: lies.

not fooled
(5,801 posts)The 'pukes let her off the leash once in a while when it won't make any difference, in an attempt to placate her constituents into thinking she isn't as bad as the rest of them. See: secretively voting DeVoid out of committee when she could have actually made a difference, then publicly voting against her on the floor--with big fanfare--when McConnell had the votes for confirmation.
So, when she comes out with something like this, I just yawn. Would love to be proven otherwise, though.

(24,720 posts)to get those tax returns, and then say it would be up to the so called leader of the intelligence committee, Burr to make the decision, I don't know where Warner stands on this issue, but if Burr says no, (and since he only got 51.1% and if you tally the democrat and the libertarian it comes to 48.9%), that will not happen unless people go into the streets and demand that he do so.
I believe Burr faced a rough town hall demanding some answers, or he didn't show up.
Let's not forget her "fascist party" voted down in the House to have those returns released under a law from 1924:

And then she goes off and says that it is a:
"My hope is that we'll have a lot of voluntary cooperation," Collins told Maine Public Radio on Wednesday. "And keep in mind that in some ways, this is a counterintelligence operation in many ways and that's what our committee specializes in."
Let's get this straight, these "people" went over and and in some cases made f***ing phone calls, to these oligarchs of a dictator to do business with them and him, and they tried and succeeded in making a mess over in the lower Crimea, and other nefarious dealings, and "hacking". Voluntary cooperation, really, not happening.............
What side of the "counterintelligence " is she on? That's my question!
Why doesn't she just demand that a subpoena be issued, this looks like more deflection and stalling, and passing the proverbial buck, either you ask the "leader" your "leader" to do it, or you don't.
What is more important party appearance or country security, answer that question when you look in the mirror every morning to be a senator when you look for voluntary cooperation, this Watergate 4.0.
