(49,034 posts)Fox News moments ago reported on Colmes death with a segment narrated by Sean Hannity, who paired with Colmes for years on the venerable talk show Hannity & Colmes.
Hannity identified his old colleague as, one of the nicest, kindest, and most generous people.
-snip-
Bill Hemmer of Fox News concluded the segment moments ago by sharing some of his own personal experiences with Colmes, adding that despite any idealogical differences the liberal commentator may have had with many of his Fox colleagues, his friendship was deeply treasured by all.

(76 posts)For a long time he was the only Democratic voice that a lot of people heard.
I think he did as well as he possibly could have done considering the situation that he was in.
R.I.P Mr Colmes and Thank You

(9,581 posts)He was a great liberal voice on talk radio. Healing thoughts to his friends and family. Rest in peace, Alan, you will be missed by many.

(43,198 posts)I know Fox News deliberately set him up as the less photogenic patsy to Hannity, but from what I heard he was still genuine in his positions and not just faking it for Murdoch money.

(9,035 posts)I hope it continues. He wasn't nice to look at, but I liked what he had to say, for a long, long time.

Kashkakat v.2.0
(1,752 posts)among the very best - one of the fewliberal/progressive talkers to regularly put on conservative callers & guests - and then proceed to give them plenty of rope to hang themselves, which they did with some regularity.
I never saw the tv thing with Hannity, but I have heard that his role on that show was more of a sidekick or punching bag for Sean. His radio program was not that at all - it was brilliant - he was always a passionate defender of progressivism and funny to boot.
As someone who listens to radio A LOT as Im working on my house - he will be truly, truly missed in this household.

(11,841 posts)There are many clips of the 2 of them going at it over one thing or another. Many times he made hannity the obvious loser in the argument.
But they were like Reagan & Tip O'Neil; after it was all over they were fine with each other. Those types are fading and its sad. I have a friend who is on the opposite side of most everything political than me, but I'm invited to every family function they have and have been for years. And vice versa. We've vacationed together as well. We just dont talk politics much, unless its just busting each other with a crack here and there. IMO, the way it should be
Kashkakat v.2.0
(1,752 posts)so effectively - in a way its kind of subversive, playing like a "nice guy," but then turning around and blowing holes in their arguments or ridiculing their illogic and hypocrisy. I believe he had way more conservative listeners than the other liberal talk show hosts have- perhaps they learned a thing or two.
RIP!

(135,425 posts)Kucinich has pretty much taken over the role--it must pay well.
And really, all ya gotta do is sit there and get interrupted...if one can stand that, I suppose it takes care of the rent and utilities, for not a lot of work...

(806 posts)He gave as good as he got. He was very smart, witty, and managed to be extremely polite at the same time.

(24,128 posts)Astonishing, too, because I got in the habit of listening to him late at night, and it hasn't been long that he's been gone from the airwaves.
