Zimmerman calls ‘The View’ after Barbara Walters walks away from interview meeting

Source: NY Daily News

George Zimmerman apparently called into "The View" to make nice with Barbara Walters on Thursday, one day after the famed TV journalist nixed a possible interview with him over his demands for a monthlong hotel stay.

Walters told the show's viewers Thursday that she flew to Florida on Wednesday to set up an on-air chat with Zimmerman, but walked away after the volunteer watchman showed up in a T-shirt and made some steep demands.

She didn't elaborate, but sources told The Miami Herald that Zimmerman wanted ABC to put him and his wife up in a hotel for a month.

Walters walked away, saying only, "It was a condition that, being a member of ABC News, I was unable to grant."

he's milking this for all it's worth. He's become the darling of wingnuts thanks to Hannity and wants to take his fame to a higher level.

When the Trayvon Martin shooting first hit the media I thought zimmerman came across as some kind of guy looking for fame. He seemed to see himself as some kind of hero out to save the neighborhood.

George Zimmerman on Trayvon Martin shooting: ‘All God’s plan’

By Elizabeth Tenety

In a Fox News interview with Sean Hannity that aired Wednesday, George Zimmerman said that he did not regret getting out of the car with a gun to follow 17-year-old Trayvon Martin on the February night the Florida teen was shot.

“I feel that it was all God’s plan, and for me to second-guess it or judge it ... ” Zimmerman said, trailing off and shaking his head.

He should just STFU and listen to his lawyer. If he thinks he is going to clear his name after a trial by media (aka electronic lynching), he is out of his mind. Not saying his self defense claim is or is not valid, or that he is or is not a racist. Simply saying the media sucks.

That she actually flew down there to intereview this clown..

Found his clothing and demands offensive, weaseled out of it by claiming the big bad network didn't allow her...

Meaning she would have him on the show otherwise...

Instead of declining to go in the first place to see this carbuncle on America's behind...

Good thing I got rid of teevee years ago, it's bad enough for my BP to read DU some days...

In all fairness ...

The reason for Walter's comment on how he was clothed yesterday, is because Zimmerman had just finished his interview with Hannity. In it he wore a suit. Walters was to interview him immediately after that interview.

She said on today's show that she should have realized something was wrong when he came in not wearing his suit, but clad in a T-shirt instead.

Walters didn't weasel out of anything. Apparently, ABC doesn't pay for interviews. Zimmerman didn't get his way yesterday with ABC & today he was arrogant enough to think he'd at least get some air time by making a call while The View was on the air.

Good for ABC & Walters not giving him air time. Zimmerman thinks his interview is hot & important enough that a big news source (ABC) and celebrity interviewer (Walters) would bend over backwards & give into his demands.

I hope people aren't stupid enough to send him money; and whatever money he gets, he better pay his taxes.

Thu Jul 19, 2012, 09:07 PM
Jul 2012

That is the question I posed yesterday on a ThinkProgress article covering the "event". After reading this the question has legs. The only obvious reason for Zimmerman to go on the talk circuit is to make all of the money he can make. How sad that a killer can make a nice living in this manner. I still don't understand why the Judge in this case didn't issue a gag order. His "thanks" from O'Mara is a call for a new Judge to be assigned. For whatever reason O'Mara wants this to be a trial in the public arena where only his opinion counts. Are there not ways to rein in rogue lawyers like O'Mara? He is turning out to be a real sleeze bag.

The law was made after the 'Son of Sam' murder spree and I think it's also been applied to Charles Manson. Of course, all of this may serve a larger purpose, to get our minds off of the crimes of Mitt and Bain. When you see the bigger prize, the action of media inflaming this case (which people can't stop looking at like the train wreck that it is) seems suspicious:

"Joe" (not his real name) the "plumber" (not his real occupation) appealed to rednecks; Zimmerman appeals to rednecks, racists and gun nuts -- a virtual Republican trifecta.

Otherwise, why was that noted as one of the offensive aspects of what Zimmerman demanded? Shouldn't the fact that he demanded what amounted to thousands of dollars to sit for the interview pretty much drown out that fact that he showed up in a (gasp) T-shirt. That's like saying, "he hacked her to death, and wore white socks with black shoes."
