Iran successfully tested a Russian-made missile defense system, the official Iranian news outlets reported Saturday.
The IRNA news agency said the military launched the sophisticated S-300 system during a recent military exercise named Damvand, named after Iran's highest mountain.

(26,317 posts)from Russia makes sense though I question relying on any other countries tech as you never know if they might have a backdoor in it to turn it against you or just render it totally inoperable.

(26,317 posts)so if they can ratchet up more instability or potential for instability that might drive up oil prices then for Russia it's a win for a far lower cost than maintaining a large military presence would cost them.
That's also why IMO so many Repugnants in office are powerhungry greedy motherfuckers as they want to spend more and more on defense not because we need to but because they know that should they lose an election or decide to retire from office that they can almost be guaranteed a cushy job somewhere in the defense industry as payback.
