Ethiopia rubbish landslide kills 48 in Addis Ababa

At least 48 people have been killed in a landslide at a vast rubbish dump on the outskirts of Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa, officials say.
They say dozens of people are still missing since the landslide on Saturday night at the Koshe landfill. A resident said 150 people were there at the time.
A number of makeshift houses are now buried under tonnes of waste.

His family brought him to America as political exiles, he went to college and made a fortune in Silicon Valley while still in school, "retired," and returned to Ethiopia to make a difference. When complete, the plant should supply something like 30% of the city's energy needs.
Horrible tragedy is not all that's happening there. In fact, when you think how it usually takes horrible tragedy to bring these nations to our notice at all, we should just automatically assume far more good things are happening than we ever hear about. Meanwhile, the funerals of some of the victims have taken place.
The dump, which has served the city of four million for more than five decades, provided shelter for some.
